About EuroScholars Program
EuroScholars is an immersive, semester-long research program that connects highly motivated undergraduate students with top-tier European research institutions for an unparalleled academic experience blending hands-on research with meaningful cultural exchange. As a participant, you'll join active research teams at renowned universities including the University of Geneva (Switzerland), Leiden University (the Netherlands), and KU Leuven University (Belgium)—all members of the League of European Research Universities (LERU). This program is designed specifically for talented students seeking to engage in cutting-edge research while developing advanced academic and professional skills in an international setting.
You'll have the opportunity to select research projects from two different EuroScholars universities across a wide range of disciplines, including architecture, arts, business & economics, engineering, medical sciences, natural sciences, law, humanities, and social sciences. Your research will be conducted under the mentorship of faculty supervisors at your host institution, allowing you to contribute meaningfully to ongoing academic inquiry while gaining direct exposure to European research methodologies and academic culture. This hands-on engagement with world-class research teams provides the kind of intellectual challenge and professional development that distinguishes EuroScholars from typical study abroad programs.
The program covers essential expenses including tuition, official transcripts, housing, internet access, medical insurance, orientation, mid-stay programming, and access to university facilities. You'll also receive in-depth advising support to ensure seamless credit transfer and academic planning. The included orientation and mid-stay program facilitate cultural integration and meaningful peer connections with fellow international students from diverse backgrounds, enriching your experience beyond the laboratory or research setting.
To be eligible, you must maintain a minimum 3.4 cumulative GPA, be enrolled in a U.S. or Canadian home institution, and demonstrate strong independent research interest and motivation. The application process is rolling-based with deadlines of October 1 for Spring Semester and April 1 for Fall Semester/Academic Year programs. You'll submit a comprehensive application including a cover letter, academic resume, two academic letters of recommendation, official transcripts, and detailed project identification statements. The host university's research teams review applications within 2-6 weeks, often conducting direct conversations with supervisors to assess fit.
By participating in EuroScholars, you'll develop research competencies, cross-cultural communication skills, and professional networks with leading European academics—positioning you competitively for graduate programs, research positions, and international career opportunities. Your Learning Agreement, jointly completed by you, your home institution, and host institution, ensures full academic credit recognition and institutional approval, making this research experience fully integrated into your degree progress.
