About First Year Abroad in Málaga Program
Experience your first year abroad at Universidad de Málaga, a fully accredited institution on the Mediterranean coast that welcomes students from around the world. This program is designed specifically for first-year students seeking an immersive Spanish education combined with structured academic support during a critical transition period.
You'll study at the Teatinos campus in northwestern Málaga, just 15-20 minutes from downtown, where you'll take courses alongside local Spanish students in both English and Spanish. The curriculum offers relevant coursework across multiple disciplines, allowing you to continue your academic progress while improving your language skills at any level. Whether you're building your foundation or advancing your Spanish proficiency, courses are tailored to support first-year learning outcomes and ensure seamless credit transfer back to your home institution.
Málaga offers a traditional Spanish experience enriched by world-class cultural attractions. You'll have easy access to art museums, historical sites, and the birthplace of Pablo Picasso. Beyond the classroom, you'll participate in excursions including visits to the Alcazaba fortress, boat rides around Málaga Bay, cooking classes, and community-building activities that help you connect with peers and discover the region's beauty.
Your housing is centrally located in cohort-shared apartments close to campus, creating an immediate support network of fellow first-year students. You won't be navigating this transition alone—our on-site team provides weekly academic advising during your first six weeks, monitoring your academic success, social integration, and helping you manage culture shock and adjustment to a new learning environment. You'll also have access to mental health support, 24/7 emergency assistance, and career resources throughout your time abroad.
The program fee covers tuition, official transcripts, housing with internet, in-country orientation, airport reception, cultural activities and excursions, international insurance, local team support, and emergency assistance. You'll be responsible for flights, meals, books, personal spending, travel insurance details beyond what's included, and your international cell phone plan—but WorldStrides provides a budgeting worksheet to help you plan financially. Campus facilities including computer labs, libraries, athletic gyms, and intramural sports are available to you as an international student.
