About Geography & Environmental Studies Abroad Program
WorldStrides offers study abroad programs in Geography and Environmental Studies, designed to take your academic learning beyond the classroom and into the world's most compelling ecosystems. Whether you're exploring Australia's Great Barrier Reef, the cloud forests of Costa Rica, or the Peruvian Andes, you'll combine rigorous coursework with firsthand experience in the places and environments you've studied in lectures and textbooks.
You'll have the opportunity to engage with subjects including Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Environmental Sustainability, Geography, and Geology through partner universities and study centers globally. Programs feature standout courses such as "Indigenous Knowledge and Climate Change Adaptation in the Peruvian Andes" (Cusco), "Introduction to Sustainability" (Townsville, Australia), "Planet Earth" (Auckland, New Zealand), "Marine Systems" (Cape Town, South Africa), and "Freshwater Ecology and Conservation" (Bangkok, Thailand). These courses are taught by experienced faculty who are accommodating resources for your academic growth.
What sets this experience apart is the integration of real-world exploration with classroom learning. You'll investigate local flora and fauna, discover the diversity of various ecosystems, and develop a deeper understanding of global environmental challenges and sustainability. The program emphasizes hands-on engagement with the natural world, allowing you to apply theoretical knowledge to actual environmental contexts and systems.
WorldStrides also offers the Choose Earth Microcredential, a digital certification program that enhances your environmental learning and provides additional professional credentials. The program is supported by a dedicated team of advisors who provide personalized guidance to help you find the perfect fit based on your preferred courses, location, and budget. Recent participants report feeling academically challenged while supported, with faculty who genuinely care about student success.
Extended application deadlines are available for select Summer and Fall 2026 programs, and Spring 2027 programs are also available for planning ahead. Whether you're an undergraduate seeking to deepen your environmental expertise or a student looking to combine travel with meaningful academic advancement, this program transforms how you understand and engage with the world's natural systems.
