About German Study Tour Program
Experience an immersive 18-19 day cultural exchange program across Germany's most vibrant cities. This study tour is designed for high school students aged 15-18 who want to live the language and culture they study in the classroom. You'll spend 13 days in Cologne living with a carefully screened and inspected local German host family, attending classes at a traditional German high school, and integrating fully into teenage life. Your days will be filled with sightseeing highlights including the iconic Cologne Cathedral, Rhine river cruises, the Chocolate Museum, and historical walking tours exploring architecture and culture dating back centuries. A day trip to Koblenz introduces you to ancient castles, terraced vineyards, and the dramatic Rhine Gorge landscape. You'll conclude your adventure with 4 days in Berlin, Germany's capital, where you'll explore Cold War history, visit the Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag, Holocaust Memorial, and walk along the Berlin Wall.
What makes this program transformative is the full immersion approach. Rather than observing German culture from the outside, you'll live it daily—eating traditional German foods with your host family, speaking German with peers your own age at school, and experiencing life as a local teenager. The program includes comprehensive support: a local coordinator in Cologne guides your experience, all travel between cities by train is arranged, accommodation with meals is provided throughout, and travel insurance is included. Students receive a local SIM card for connectivity and have free Wi-Fi access at most locations.
The program runs during Australian school holidays with departures in April, September, and January, allowing you to participate without disrupting your academic year. Group tours are available (with a 10-student minimum earning one free teacher spot), or individual students can join combined groups departing at scheduled times. CEA, the organizing body since 1998, specializes in boutique educational exchanges and works directly with partner schools and coordinators abroad to ensure quality experiences.
You'll return home with dramatically improved German speaking skills, lifelong friendships with German peers, expanded cultural understanding, and renewed passion for the language that translates directly into better classroom performance and exam results. This isn't just a trip—it's the opportunity to move your language learning from your head to your heart through lived experience in the heart of Europe.
