About Global Studies – Universidad de Piura Lima J-Term Program
Spend your winter break diving into pressing global issues at Universidad de Piura, one of Peru's top-ranked universities located in Lima's vibrant Miraflores district. This J-Term program offers you the chance to take English-taught courses in a small, personalized classroom setting while immersing yourself in one of South America's most dynamic cities. You'll explore themes spanning cultures and borders, with particular focus on Latin American political, economic, and social realities, as well as corporate sustainability and global challenges.
Your experience extends far beyond the classroom. From the moment you arrive, WorldStrides' experienced on-site team will support you with airport reception, comprehensive orientation, and ongoing assistance throughout your stay. You'll participate in curated cultural activities and optional excursions designed to bring Lima to life—from walking the halls of the Fortaleza del Real Felipe fortress to climbing the pre-Inca Huaca Pucllana pyramid, exploring street art and activism through graffiti workshops, and discovering Lima's world-class museums and historic sites. The program is intentionally designed to help you connect with your host community while maintaining academic rigor.
Miraflores itself is a major draw: this coastal neighborhood is known for its scenic parks, seaside views, and walkable streets that put you minutes from cafés, cultural hubs like Parque Kennedy, and beautiful beaches. You'll study at a modern, open-air campus that balances academic focus with urban exploration, and you'll have opportunities to participate in campus life through sports, cultural clubs, and volunteering. Whether you're tasting Lima's renowned food scene, exploring its rich history, or enjoying its contemporary art landscape, you'll find endless activities and cultural experiences.
Housing options are flexible and matched to your preferences on a first-come, first-served basis: choose from fully-furnished apartments with utilities and weekly cleaning, homestays with host families offering two meals daily, student residences shared with other international students, or arrange your own independent housing. All housing includes utilities and internet. The program also covers tuition, your official transcript, cultural activities, local team support, airport reception, in-country orientation, international accident and sickness insurance, 24/7 emergency assistance, mental health support, and career resources—so you can focus on your experience rather than logistics.
You'll earn 3 recommended U.S. semester credits (or 4.5 quarter units) through one 3-credit course taught in English. There is no language requirement, making this ideal for students at any Spanish level. Course options include "Political, Economic & Social Reality of Latin America" (examining the region's social and economic dimensions with emphasis on business environment) and "Sustainability of the Global South" (exploring corporate sustainability and innovative solutions to global challenges through a Peruvian lens). This is the perfect winter break option if you want to stay on track academically while gaining invaluable international experience.
