About Intensive Spanish Language – Universidad de Granada Program
Spend a transformative semester strengthening your Spanish in one of Spain's most captivating cities — Granada, set at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains and rich with Moorish heritage, flamenco traditions, and vibrant student life. Through WorldStrides (formerly International Studies Abroad), you'll study at the Universidad de Granada's Centro de Lenguas Modernas (CLM), located in the heart of the historic Realejo neighborhood, surrounded by Renaissance palaces, Gothic churches, and cobbled streets. This program is open to students of all Spanish levels, from true beginners to near-native speakers.
The academic structure consists of three month-long consecutive modules, with a language placement exam determining your starting level. You have the opportunity to advance to a new level after each module — accelerating your development across writing, reading, speaking, and listening. The program covers eight levels (Beginning through Superior, A1 to C1), and all courses are taught entirely in Spanish by local UGR faculty alongside other international students, creating a dynamic and immersive classroom experience. The Fall Semester totals 200 contact hours across the three modules, with 13–14 recommended U.S. semester credits (or 20 quarter units).
Beyond the classroom, you'll deepen your cultural immersion through included excursions and activities such as a guided tour of the Alhambra palace, flamenco performances, Spanish cooking classes, and an overnight hike in the Alpujarra mountains. Optional excursions extend your experience to Seville, Córdoba, Madrid, Morocco, and the Mediterranean coast. A structured language exchange program also pairs you with local Spanish students for two-way cultural and conversational learning.
For students seeking an even richer experience, the Study + Community option allows you to pair your language courses with a community engagement placement at a local Granada organization. Partner sites focus on areas including family and youth development, primary education, environmental education, community services, and healthcare. You'll complete reflective assignments alongside your service hours to earn academic credit while building intercultural competency and making a meaningful impact.
Your program fee includes tuition and an official transcript from the Universidad de Granada, housing, internet, cultural activities and excursions, airport reception, an in-depth in-country orientation, international insurance, 24/7 emergency assistance, mental health support, and career resources. Housing options include off-campus apartments, homestays (with three meals daily and weekly laundry), student residences, and independent housing. A dedicated on-site team — including a Resident Director, student services coordinator, and academics staff — supports you throughout your stay. You must be at least 18 years old and hold a minimum 2.5 GPA to participate.
