About Semester at Florida State University-Valencia Study Center Program
Imagine spending a semester—or even a full academic year—living and studying in Valencia, Spain, one of the country's most vibrant and dynamic coastal cities. At the Florida State University Study Center, located just steps from the iconic Serrano Towers in Valencia's historic Old City, you'll immerse yourself in a rich academic environment housed within beautifully restored buildings that integrate original Roman and Arabic walls with modern facilities. This is study abroad that combines intellectual rigor with genuine cultural discovery.
Academically, you'll choose from a broad range of courses taught in English—covering business and economics, social sciences, biological sciences, cultural studies, and more—or elect to strengthen your Spanish through language courses offered at every level, from beginner to advanced. You'll enroll in 4–5 courses per semester (up to 14 credits), study alongside other international and FSU students, and earn an official FSU transcript that reflects U.S. semester credits. Contact hours range from 180 to 240 per semester, and recommended U.S. semester credits are 12–16 per term.
From the moment you arrive, you'll be supported by an experienced, English-speaking on-site team that greets you at the airport and remains available throughout your program. An in-depth orientation helps you navigate the city, local academic culture, and your new home. Around-the-clock emergency assistance, international insurance, mental health telehealth access, and a dedicated mobile app ensure your safety and well-being are never in question. A dedicated program manager also supports you before, during, and after your time abroad.
Your program fee covers tuition, housing, internet, cultural activities and excursions, airport reception, orientation, international insurance, local team support, 24/7 emergency assistance, mental health support, and career resources. You'll be responsible for flights, meals, books, personal spending, travel insurance, and your international phone plan. Housing options include fully furnished apartments, homestays with local families (including meals and laundry), or independent housing if you prefer to arrange your own accommodation.
Beyond the classroom, curated excursions bring Valencia and Spain to life: drift through the Albufera lagoon, take a hands-on paella cooking class at a local farm, explore the Costa Brava, discover Granada's Alhambra, bike through Turia Gardens, or spend a day kayaking on the Mediterranean. Whether you're a business student, a science major, a language learner, or simply someone eager to experience European life up close, this program offers the perfect blend of academic engagement and cultural immersion. And if one semester isn't enough, the full academic year option deepens your experience even further.
