About Semester at Universidad Pablo de Olavide Program
If you're looking for an immersive semester abroad in one of Spain's most vibrant and historically rich cities, the Semester at Universidad Pablo de Olavide (UPO) in Seville is an exceptional choice. Offered through WorldStrides (formerly International Studies Abroad), this program gives you access to a wide variety of English- and Spanish-taught courses spanning business, liberal arts, Spanish language, psychology, science, communication, history, and more. You'll study at UPO's modern, North American-style campus located just five miles outside Seville's historic center—easily accessible by metro—where you'll find state-of-the-art facilities including computer and science labs, sports complexes, green spaces, and an extensive library.
Seville itself is a city that pulses with energy: flamenco performances, centuries-old architecture, sun-drenched plazas, and a famously relaxed patio culture where locals linger over tapas for hours. You'll experience this firsthand as you commute through the city, join excursions to landmarks like the Real Alcázar, attend cooking classes, and engage with the local community. Cultural activities and excursions are included in your program fee, connecting your classroom learning to the living history and contemporary life of Andalusia.
You can choose from several terms—Fall Semester, Spring Semester, or a full Academic Year—making it easy to fit the program into your degree plan. The program is available in a standard Study Abroad format or as a Study + Veritas option, which adds faith-based learning, mentorship, and community ministry opportunities for students seeking a spiritually integrated study abroad experience. Veritas students enroll in an additional 3-credit online course through California Baptist University alongside their full-time coursework at UPO.
Academically, you'll enroll in 4–5 courses per semester. Credits are awarded in ECTS (with 6 ECTS equaling 3 U.S. semester credits), and your UPO transcript will reflect ECTS credits. Spanish language placement is determined by an exam administered by UPO, and the program recommends taking a language course if you have fewer than one semester of college-level Spanish. From the moment you arrive, you'll be supported by an on-site WorldStrides team that greets you at the airport, provides a comprehensive in-country orientation, and offers 24/7 emergency assistance, mental health support, and career resources throughout your stay.
Housing options include off-campus apartments, homestays, student residences, and independent housing, giving you flexibility to choose the living arrangement that best suits your lifestyle and budget. Your program fee covers tuition, an official transcript, housing and internet, cultural activities and excursions, local team support, airport reception, orientation, and international insurance. You'll be responsible for flights, meals, books, personal spending, and your international cell phone plan. To be eligible, you must be at least 18 years old at time of participation and have a minimum 2.7 GPA.
