Imagine studying in Stirling, Scotland — an ancient fortress city dramatically positioned at the meeting point of lowland and highland Scotland, known as the "Gateway to the Highlands." Through USAC's partnership with the University of Stirling, you can immerse yourself in one of Scotland's most storied and scenic cities, centrally located between Edinburgh and Glasgow with excellent train connections to both in under an hour. Walking Stirling's cobblestone streets feels like stepping back through centuries of history, with preserved sixteenth- and seventeenth-century buildings, Stirling Castle, the National Wallace Monument, Cambuskenneth Abbey, and the Old Town Jail all within reach.
The University of Stirling is a top-ranked academic institution recognized for campus life, safety, and a vibrant international community representing more than 140 nationalities. You can choose from a wide range of disciplines including communications, criminology, politics, marketing, biology, business, computing, economics, environmental sciences, film, history, journalism, and more. The university also offers dedicated courses each term focusing on Scottish and U.K. studies, giving you a unique academic lens on your host country. All instruction is in English, making this an accessible destination for a broad range of students.
Flexibility is a hallmark of this program — you can attend for one or two summer sessions, a single semester, or a full academic year, depending on your goals and schedule. The program has a capacity of 20 students, ensuring a close-knit experience with personalized support. USAC organizes field trips to destinations like Glasgow, Edinburgh, St Andrews, the Highlands, and the Northeast Coast, so your learning extends well beyond the classroom.
On campus, you'll have access to a stunning 330-acre parkland setting with shops, cafés, and state-of-the-art sports and fitness facilities. Semester students can join nearly 120 societies and sports clubs, making it easy to build friendships and integrate into campus life. To be eligible for the summer program, you need a minimum GPA of 2.7 and at least one semester of college completed. Semester and yearlong applicants need a minimum GPA of 3.0, Junior standing while abroad, and must be degree-seeking students at a four-year institution (strong Sophomore applications are considered). Scholarships and financial aid opportunities are available through USAC, and overseas credit is awarded for coursework completed.
