About Adventurous Women on the French River Program
Join an unforgettable 4-day canoe adventure on Ontario's historic French River, designed specifically for cis-women, trans-women, and gender non-conforming paddlers. This beginner-friendly program takes you on a 40-kilometer journey down the Main Channel from Wolseley Bay to Dry Pine Bay, immersing you in one of Canada's most significant waterways. The French River runs 105 kilometers from Lake Nipissing to Georgian Bay and is recognized as a Canadian Heritage River, winding through a stunning wilderness of interconnected lakes, scenic gorges, and exciting rapids and swifts.
You'll paddle through waters steeped in history—lands traditionally used by the Mississauga and Anishinabek Nations and later by voyageurs during the fur trade era. This isn't just a paddling trip; it's a journey through living history. Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to build confidence on the water, you'll benefit from expert coaching and full support from experienced guides who create a welcoming, inclusive environment for all skill levels.
Beyond the paddling itself, expect evenings by the campfire where you'll share stories and fellowship with fellow adventurers, creating lasting connections with women who share your love of the outdoors. The program provides comprehensive support: professional guides handle safety and logistics, all meals are included, tents and camping equipment are supplied, and you'll have access to high-quality canoes, paddles, and personal flotation devices. Every detail is managed so you can focus on the experience—learning new paddling skills, navigating whitewater, and discovering your outdoor potential.
The program includes shuttle transportation to the put-in point, all launch fees, interior camping permits, and parking for the duration of your stay. Group equipment, safety gear including a satellite phone and rescue kits, and 60-liter waterproof barrels for your personal gear ensure you're well-prepared for wilderness camping. This is more than recreation—it's an empowering experience designed to build confidence, foster community, and reconnect you with nature in one of Ontario's most beautiful and historically rich landscapes.
