About Coulonge River Program

Experience 10 days of intermediate-level whitewater paddling on the Coulonge River, one of Quebec's most thrilling and scenic waterways. Located in Fort Coulonge, QC, this adventure takes you through La Vérendrye Wildlife Reserve and down 270km of pristine Canadian wilderness featuring waterfalls, rapids, swifts, and beautiful lakes. You'll paddle through terrain that uniquely blends the rocky Canadian Shield landscape with sandy beaches, encountering Class 1 to Class 3 rapids with the guidance of professional instructors who focus on building your whitewater skills and confidence on moving water.

As part of MHO Adventures' celebrated "Three Sisters" river collection, the Coulonge offers the most fast-moving water of the trio, with countless playful swifts and rapids that will challenge and delight you. Your guides will help you progress from your current skill level through hands-on whitewater instruction, culminating on your final day with a legendary section of river that legendary canoeist Hap Wilson called "a blast that lasts"—a stretch filled with Class 1 rapids and swifts that embody the pure joy of paddling.

Your 10-day journey includes a first night in a yurt followed by wilderness camping with professional guides, all meals from dinner on Day 1 through lunch on your final day, and all necessary equipment including canoes, paddles, PFDs, helmets, tents, and safety gear. You'll paddle through the traditional territories of the Omàmìwininìwag (Algonquin) and Anishinabeg Nation, offering an opportunity to connect with the land while respecting its indigenous heritage. The itinerary balances technical paddling challenges with opportunities for photography, portaging, and exploration of stunning waterfalls.

This program is ideal for paddlers with intermediate experience who are ready to tackle moving water and develop advanced river skills in a small group setting (only 3 spots available). Whether this is your first or third experience with the Three Sisters rivers, you'll discover the unique geographical and hydrological character that makes the Coulonge special. The comprehensive package—including shuttle to the river, parking, camping permits, and professional safety equipment—ensures you can focus entirely on the adventure ahead in one of Quebec's most protected and pristine wilderness regions.
