About French River Family Adventure Program

Experience an unforgettable 4-day canoe expedition on the French River, one of Ontario's most historically significant waterways and a designated Canadian Heritage River. This family-friendly adventure takes you paddling through the scenic Main Channel from Wolseley Bay to Dry Pine Bay—approximately 40 kilometers over four days—where you'll navigate beginner-level whitewater, interconnecting lakes, and stunning gorges. The French River holds profound cultural significance as a traditional territory of the Mississauga and Anishinabek Nations, who first used this waterway for travel and trade; later, voyageurs relied on it for the fur trade, and the logging industry used it to access the interior. As a participant, you'll be a visitor to this historically rich landscape, paddling through pristine wilderness while camping under the stars and learning wilderness skills from professional guides.

This program is perfectly suited for families or anyone seeking an introduction to whitewater canoeing. You'll develop practical paddling skills while experiencing beginner-level rapids and swifts that provide genuine excitement without requiring advanced experience. The route's variety—combining lakes, gorges, and whitewater sections—ensures you'll encounter diverse paddling conditions and stunning natural scenery throughout your journey. All meals are provided from lunch on Day 1 through lunch on Day 4, allowing you to focus entirely on the adventure rather than logistical concerns.

Your accommodation includes comfortable riverside camping with provided tents and thermarests, creating an immersive outdoor experience. The outfitter supplies all essential equipment: canoes, paddles, personal flotation devices, group gear, safety equipment including SAT phones and first aid kits, waterproof barrels for personal gear, and interior camping permits. Professional guides accompany your group throughout, ensuring safety and sharing their knowledge of the river, its ecosystems, and its cultural heritage. You'll also benefit from shuttle service to the put-in point and launch fees included in the trip cost.

Whether you're looking to bond with family, challenge yourself in a natural setting, or simply escape into Canada's backcountry, this French River adventure offers a rare combination of cultural immersion, outdoor skill-building, and pristine wilderness exploration. Note that no trip dates are currently scheduled for 2026; interested participants are encouraged to contact MHO Adventures directly to express interest and learn about upcoming availability.
