About Intermediate Tandem Moving Water Skills Course Program
Join MHO Adventures for an intensive 2-day intermediate whitewater canoeing course designed to elevate your paddling skills on moving water. Based at Palmer Rapids on the Madawaska River in Ontario, this hands-on program is led by certified Paddle Canada Whitewater Instructors who will guide you through advanced tandem canoeing techniques in a real river environment.
During this weekend course, you'll develop fundamental skills and master essential maneuvers required for confident whitewater paddling. The curriculum focuses on practical, river-tested techniques including eddy exits into troughs, precise stroke timing and placement, intermediate paddling strokes, back ferries, jet ferries, and front surfing—all critical skills for navigating dynamic water conditions safely and efficiently.
You'll be based at the Paddler's Coop, a riverside facility that serves as your home base for the weekend. The inclusive course fee covers everything you need: all meals from breakfast on day two through lunch on day three, group equipment, canoes, paddles, PFDs and helmets, comprehensive safety equipment, 2 nights of camping, and your Paddle Canada certification costs. This means you can focus entirely on learning without worrying about logistics or hidden expenses.
This course is ideal if you've completed the Introduction to Tandem Moving Water training and are ready to tackle more challenging river conditions and advanced paddling techniques. You'll work directly with experienced instructors in small groups, receiving personalized feedback as you build confidence and competence on the water.
By the end of the weekend, you'll earn an official Paddle Canada Intermediate Tandem Moving Water Canoeing certification, validating your new skills and opening doors to more advanced paddling adventures. Whether you're preparing for wilderness trips, improving your technical abilities, or simply pushing your limits, this course provides the structured instruction and supportive environment you need to progress as a paddler.
