About Introduction Tandem Moving Water Skills Course Program
Ready to transform your paddling skills and gain confidence in whitewater environments? MHO Adventures' Introduction Tandem Moving Water Skills Course is a hands-on, two-day weekend program designed to take you from flatwater paddling to navigating exciting Class II rapids. Held at Palmer Rapids on the Madawaska River in Ontario, this course combines expert instruction with an immersive outdoor experience that builds both technical ability and a genuine love for moving water.
You'll learn from Paddle Canada–certified whitewater instructors who guide you through a carefully structured progression of skills. The curriculum covers fundamental canoe strokes and techniques, basic maneuvers in Class I current, eddy turns and ferries, basic river rescue principles, and essential river safety and communication. Starting at 8am Saturday and running through 4-5pm Sunday, you'll spend two full days on the water, with Friday night camping included so you can arrive and settle in before instruction begins.
What sets MHO Adventures apart is their genuinely all-inclusive pricing model—$725 CAD covers everything with no hidden fees. Your course fee includes all meals from breakfast on Day 1 through lunch on Day 2, all paddling and safety equipment (canoes, paddles, PFDs, helmets), group and camping gear, two nights of camping at Paddler's Coop, and Paddle Canada certification fees. You'll also have parking for the weekend included, so you can focus entirely on learning and developing your skills rather than managing logistics.
By the end of the weekend, you'll have earned your Paddle Canada Intro Moving Water certification—a recognized credential that validates your foundational whitewater skills. This program is ideal for paddlers who have flatwater experience and want to safely progress into moving water and whitewater environments. Whether you're looking to expand your paddling repertoire, challenge yourself with new skills, or simply spend a rewarding weekend learning in an outdoor setting, this course provides the perfect entry point into the dynamic world of whitewater paddling.
