About My Osaka and Kyoto Trip Program
This is a student blog post from a University of Texas at Dallas participant describing a personal trip through Osaka and Kyoto, Japan. The post documents a spontaneous multi-day journey that included attending a professional volleyball sports festival in Osaka with Olympic athletes like Yuji Nishida and Matthew Anderson, exploring iconic landmarks such as Osaka Castle and the famous Glico Running Man sign in Dotonbori, and experiencing the cultural and natural beauty of Kyoto's temples, shrines, and gardens. In Kyoto, the student visited famous sites including the bamboo forests of Arashiyama, Kiyomizu-dera temple and its adjacent pagoda, the serene shrine experience at night, and the striking Fushimi Inari shrine with its thousands of red torii gates. The student also took the scenic Sagano train ride along the Katsura River and visited the Togetsukyō Bridge. The narrative emphasizes the sensory and cultural experiences available in both cities—from the energetic, crowded atmosphere of Osaka's commercial and entertainment districts to the peaceful, contemplative beauty of Kyoto's natural and spiritual spaces. This account suggests that WorldStrides offers flexible, student-centered travel experiences in Japan where participants can engage with both contemporary events and traditional cultural heritage, making it suitable for students seeking immersive cultural exposure and adventure in East Asia.
