About Noire River Adult Adventure Program
Experience an unforgettable 4-day whitewater canoeing expedition on the Noire River in Western Quebec, a remote and pristine waterway that flows 238 km through the traditional territories of the Omàmìwininìwag (Algonquin) and Anishinabeg Nation. This adventure is designed for paddlers of all skill levels ages 16 and up who want to challenge themselves while building confidence in a supportive group environment.
Your journey takes you 63 km down the river's most scenic section, where minimal portages and maximum fun class 1 and 2 rapids create the ideal learning progression. Unlike its sister rivers, the Noire offers manageable whitewater that allows you to develop your paddling skills at your own pace while feeling empowered to move your own canoe. You'll meet your professional guides and fellow adventurers on Day 1 morning, complete a 1.5-hour shuttle to the river's start, and then spend the next 4 days and 3 nights paddling and camping in the Canadian Shield wilderness.
Each day you'll experience the rhythm of wilderness travel: paddling through exciting whitewater sections, discovering enormous sandy beach campsites on every bend of this meandering river, and enjoying ample time to swim, relax, and connect with fellow paddlers. The itinerary is designed with short paddling days so you're never exhausted—instead, you'll have plenty of time to read, play in the rapids, and simply be present in nature. Your final morning brings continuous class 1 whitewater leading to the Black River Inn take-out, where you'll be transported back to your vehicles for lunch and meaningful goodbyes.
Everything you need is provided: all meals from lunch on Day 1 through lunch on Day 4, professional-grade canoes, paddles, PFDs, helmets, and safety equipment including SAT phones and first aid kits. Tents, sleeping pads, and a 60L waterproof barrel for your personal gear are included, along with expert guides who provide coaching and support throughout. Interior camping permits, shuttle transportation, and parking are covered in your trip cost.
This adventure is perfect if you're seeking a genuine escape from daily life, want to test yourself on a whitewater expedition without feeling overwhelmed, and crave the camaraderie of paddling with like-minded adventurers. Whether you're a beginner hesitant about your abilities or an experienced paddler looking for a relaxed but engaging trip, the Noire River's combination of manageable rapids, stunning landscape, and supportive group dynamic makes this an ideal introduction to or renewal of your love for wilderness paddling.
