About Study Abroad in London – Advanced Fashion Design Program
Spend a transformative semester in London, the global fashion, design, and creative hub, studying Advanced Fashion Design at Central Saint Martins (CSM)—one of the world's top-ranked fashion schools. You'll join a legacy of innovation: CSM alumni include fashion icons Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, and John Galliano, alongside countless emerging designers shaping global creative industries.
This curated semester program is designed to immerse you in CSM's experimental and avant-garde design philosophy. You'll take hands-on courses exploring how culture influences design, the role of fashion in identity and communication, and cutting-edge topics like fashion biomaterials. Your coursework combines three mandatory courses focused on culture and creativity in London, three core fashion design courses, and specialized electives in fashion biomaterials or fashion jewelry. All courses are taught in English and equivalent to 300-level U.S. coursework, giving you 12–16 credits of rigorous, globally recognized study.
Beyond the classroom, you'll access CSM's world-class facilities: fashion studios for pattern cutting and garment construction, knit and weave workshops with looms, digital labs, maker spaces, and a museum and gallery housing famous fashion artifacts. You'll be encouraged to collaborate across the school, using fashion and design to creatively address global challenges. Your instructors are practicing designers, artists, and fashion communicators with deep ties to London and global design industries, ensuring your education is grounded in real-world creative practice.
You'll live in UAL Halls of Residence—unique historic buildings like the Costume Store, a converted BBC television costume warehouse—shared with other UAL degree-seeking and study abroad students. Housing includes studio workshop space and access to an on-site gallery. London's unparalleled cultural landscape surrounds you: the British Museum, National Gallery, Tate Modern, 40 West End theaters, and a transportation system anchored by the world's oldest underground railway. Your program includes day trips to Cambridge, Stonehenge and Salisbury, and a 5-day field trip to Paris (London College of Fashion semester option), plus curated cultural activities like walking tours, theater performances, and sporting events.
AIFS Abroad provides comprehensive support: a dedicated on-site Program Director, 24/7 emergency support, health insurance, visa processing assistance, pre-departure and orientation services, and access to the Clifton StrengthsFinder assessment and alumni network. The inclusive $23,990 program fee covers tuition, housing, excursions, and most cultural activities. Optional round-trip flights from 25 U.S. gateways start at $1,480 (New York/Newark) and help you integrate seamlessly with your cohort. Upon completion, you're eligible for a 20% discount on future postgraduate programs at UAL.
This program is ideal for sophomore, junior, and senior fashion design majors who have completed at least one year of prior fashion design coursework and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA. You'll submit a portfolio of 20–25 images as part of your application, showcasing your design thinking and readiness to engage with one of the world's most influential fashion institutions.
