About Study Abroad in Rome, Italy - January Term Program
Immerse yourself in one of Europe's most captivating cities this January Term with AIFS Abroad's Rome program. From January 2–17, 2027, you'll experience Rome not as a tourist, but as a student living and learning in the heart of the Eternal City. Located within walking distance of iconic landmarks like the Trevi Fountain and Colosseum, the AIFS Global Education Center puts you at the epicenter of world-renowned art, cuisine, museums, and historical sites that have shaped Western civilization.
You'll earn up to 3 semester credits while choosing from engaging courses taught in English—including Roman Art, History of the Popes, Cross-Cultural Psychology, Strategic Management, and Food Politics—or study Italian Language taught in Italian. What makes this program unique is its commitment to experiential learning: your classroom extends beyond walls to include site visits to key institutions and monuments, transforming Rome itself into your curriculum. Whether you're examining Renaissance masterpieces or exploring the intersections of culture and commerce, your studies are brought to life through direct engagement with the city's unparalleled cultural and historical resources.
Beyond academics, you'll live like a local in a centrally-located apartment in vibrant neighborhoods such as Trastevere, Campo de' Fiori, Prati, or Monti—each offering authentic access to Roman daily life, markets, shops, and restaurants. Your housing includes furnished apartments with kitchens, Wi-Fi, utilities, and shared bathrooms, plus meal vouchers for three meals per week at local trattorias and pizzerias, allowing you to experience authentic Italian cuisine with fresh, local produce. The program fee of $4,990 is all-inclusive, covering tuition, housing, partial meals, and comprehensive support services.
Cultural enrichment is woven throughout your stay. You'll participate in Italian cooking classes, food market tours, wine tastings, visits to the Vatican Museums and Roman Forum, walking tours, gelato explorations, and even Italian soccer matches. A dedicated team of full-time Student Advisors and the Program Director (Rosanna Graziani, a passionate educator with deep roots in Italy) provide 24/7 emergency support, visa guidance, and personalized advice to help you adjust and thrive. An optional excursion to Florence (2 days, estimated $545) deepens your understanding of Renaissance Italy with visits to Michelangelo's David and guided sightseeing.
This program is open to high school graduates through seniors with a minimum 2.5 GPA and is ideal if you're interested in art, art history, Italian language, management, political science, psychology, religious studies, or sociology. You'll benefit from rolling admissions (decisions within 2 working days), pre-departure and upon-return services, carbon offsetting for your flights, and the option to book round-trip flights from 25 U.S. gateways ($1,500–$1,700 depending on departure city). Whether you're a first-generation study abroad student or a seasoned traveler, this January Term in Rome offers an unforgettable blend of rigorous academics, cultural immersion, and personal growth in one of the world's most historically and artistically significant cities.
