About Whitewater Warm Up Weekend Program
The Whitewater Warm Up Weekend is a two-day adventure designed to introduce you to whitewater paddling in a supportive, instructional environment. Run by the professional MHO Guide Team—all certified Paddle Canada Whitewater Instructors—this program uses a clinical teaching approach to build your skills from the ground up. You'll start by practicing fundamental strokes and maneuvers on Day 1, then progress to navigating Class II rapids by Day 2, allowing you to experience real whitewater challenge as you gain confidence.
Your adventure takes place at Palmer Rapids on the Madawaska River in Ontario, with all operations based at the Paddler's Coop. This location offers ideal conditions for learners: accessible whitewater that challenges without overwhelming, and a well-established paddling community. The setting provides both the technical instruction you need and the natural beauty that makes wilderness paddling rewarding.
The program includes comprehensive support for your comfort and safety. You'll sleep in provided tents with thermarests, enjoy meals from breakfast on Day 1 through lunch on Day 2, and have access to all necessary gear: canoes, paddles, PFDs, helmets, and dry bags for your personal items. Professional guides manage safety equipment including SAT phones, first aid kits, and rescue kits, so you can focus on learning and enjoying the experience. Camping fees and weekend parking are covered, making logistics straightforward.
This weekend is ideal if you're new to whitewater paddling or want to refresh your skills before embarking on longer expeditions. The two-day duration is long enough to make real progress but short enough to fit into your schedule. If you're already booked on a longer 2026 guided trip with MHO Adventures, you'll receive a 20% discount on this warm-up program, making it an excellent preparation opportunity.
