About Wind River - Yukon Program
Experience an unforgettable 12-day wilderness paddling expedition down the Wind River in East Central Yukon Territory, one of Canada's most pristine northern waterways. This adventure-focused program takes you from the crystal-clear headwaters in the Wernecke Mountains through 250+ kilometers of fast-moving water into the Peel River, a landscape shaped by the traditional territories of the Gwitch'in Dene and Na-Cho Nyak Dun First Nations.
Your journey begins in Whitehorse, where you'll spend your first night organizing gear and bonding with fellow paddlers before heading north to Mayo. From there, a chartered float plane carries you to McClusky Lake, where a short portage and creek lining leads to the Wind River proper. What awaits is days of exhilarating paddling through swift, clear water surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery—no significant rapids, but standing waves and river obstacles that will test and expand your paddling skills.
This is a moderate-difficulty trip designed for paddlers with previous river experience who are ready to level up their skills on a classic northern river. You'll navigate the Wind's fast-moving currents and dynamic features while enjoying gourmet meals prepared in camp each evening, creating a perfect balance of adventure and comfort. Professional guides lead the expedition, handle all safety protocols (including SAT phones and comprehensive first aid), and ensure you travel respectfully through this remote wilderness.
Inclusions are comprehensive: all accommodations (hotels for nights 1 and 12, expedition tents in the backcountry), meals from breakfast on Day 1 through lunch on Day 12, all paddling equipment (canoes, paddles, PFDs, helmets), group and safety gear, charter flights, and ground transportation. The only major items you'll need to bring are your sleeping bag and a 60L waterproof barrel or dry bag for personal gear. This is the ideal program for intermediate to experienced paddlers seeking to explore remote Canadian wilderness, challenge themselves on moving water, and create lasting memories in one of North America's most spectacular river systems.
