About Australia & New Zealand for Older Teens Program

Embark on a 25-day transformative journey through Australia and New Zealand, where you'll experience two of the world's most diverse and stunning destinations. This comprehensive teen tour combines the urban energy of Sydney with the natural wonders of the Great Barrier Reef, tropical rainforests, and glaciers, before transporting you to New Zealand's breathtaking South Island for adventures in alpine lakes, dramatic fjords, and otherworldly landscapes.

In Australia, your journey begins in Sydney, where you'll explore the iconic Opera House, vibrant neighborhoods like Surry Hills and Bondi Beach, and the famous Luna Park. You'll then fly to Brisbane and take a high-speed ferry to Moreton Island, the world's third-largest sand island, where you can feed wild dolphins, sandboard down giant dunes, and relax on pristine beaches. In Far North Queensland, you'll spend a full day at the Great Barrier Reef with opportunities to scuba dive or snorkel alongside sea turtles and exquisite marine life. You'll also learn Aboriginal traditions in Kuranda, throw boomerangs, play the didgeridoo, and enjoy a traditional Australian BBQ. Through Reef Teach, you'll participate in marine conservation efforts at a turtle rehabilitation center, giving back to the community while learning about ocean ecosystems.

New Zealand's South Island is where the adventure truly intensifies. Starting in Christchurch, you'll explore the innovative Cardboard Cathedral and vibrant local markets before heading to Lake Tekapo, the world's largest dark sky reserve. Here, you'll experience unforgettable stargazing from floating hammocks in thermal hot springs while gazing at constellations, meteor showers, and the Southern Cross through the Mount John Observatory's special telescope. You'll hike to spectacular glacial valleys, visit the stunning blue waters of Lake Pukaki with Mount Cook's snowy peaks reflected in its mirror-like surface, and explore the hidden gem of Clay Cliffs in Omarama.

The program's highlight adventures include cruising through the spellbinding Milford Sound where you'll spot penguins, seals, and dolphins among dramatic fjords and towering mountains, zooming through rock canyons in the world's fastest jet boat, and visiting Franz Josef Glacier. The brave can opt for helicopter rides to glacier summits and even try ice climbing on the glacier's crevices before relaxing in hot pools surrounded by rainforest. You'll also explore Wanaka's crystal-clear lake and famous "Wanaka tree," hike through scenic forests, visit the spiritual energy of Castle Hill's limestone formations, and encounter New Zealand's native kea parrots.

Accommodations are carefully selected small, family-run hotels in centrally located neighborhoods—never impersonal chain hotels on city outskirts. You'll stay a few blocks from Sydney's Esplanade, in resort-style accommodation on Moreton Island, in the heart of Surry Hills near major attractions, and near Queenstown's Shotover Street waterfront. Your tuition includes all ground transportation, accommodations, experienced chaperones and guides, program activities and admissions, meals (breakfasts and dinners), and taxes and tips. The region's multicultural food scene offers authentic Greek, Italian, Thai, Indian, and Chinese cuisine, plus adventurous options like kangaroo, crocodile, and emu for those willing to try. Travel For Teens specializes in authentic cultural immersion—you'll eat, stay, and travel like a local, meeting fellow travelers who remain lifelong friends while building confidence and a genuine passion for global exploration.
