About Ciao Italy: For Middle School Program
Ciao Italy is an 11-day summer program designed specifically for middle school students (grades 7-8) experiencing their first independent trip abroad. You'll immerse yourself in authentic Italian culture across four iconic destinations, carefully paced to help younger teens adjust to being abroad without overwhelming them.
Your journey begins in Florence, the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance, where you'll see Michelangelo's David, explore the stunning Duomo, and visit the world-renowned Uffizi Museum. You'll shop in famous markets, attend an exclusive event at a premier leather shop, hunt for the city's best pizza and gelato, and take a day trip to the magical floating city of Venice, where you'll wander picturesque canals in a relaxed atmosphere.
Next, you'll discover the Italian Riviera in Cinque Terre, one of Italy's hidden gems. You'll stay right in Monterosso village, just steps from the beach, where the program has established strong local relationships. Here you'll hike spectacular trails connecting five pastel-colored fishing villages perched on dramatic cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean, sample local pesto and focaccia, and enjoy fresh seafood in a seaside paradise.
On your way to Rome, you'll stop in the charming Tuscan hill town of Montalcino for an exclusive, hands-on cooking class at a private family estate using freshly harvested vegetables from their garden, plus a tour of their award-winning winery. This immersive experience lets you experience authentic Tuscan culture firsthand.
Your final stop is Rome, the Eternal City, where you'll walk in the footsteps of ancient gladiators at the Colosseum, marvel at Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel ceiling in the Vatican Museums, explore St. Peter's Basilica, hang out at the Spanish Steps, and toss a coin into the Trevi Fountain to ensure your return. Throughout the program, you'll stay in small, family-run hotels in safe, centrally located areas within walking distance of main attractions—never impersonal chain hotels.
The program includes all ground transportation, accommodations with chaperones and guides, program activities and admissions, taxes, tips, and all breakfasts and dinners. Food is central to the experience: you'll eat at authentic local restaurants where real Italians dine, enjoying fresh ingredients, homemade pasta, and regional specialties. The program accommodates vegetarians, vegans, gluten allergies, and other dietary restrictions. This is structured youth travel at its finest—safe, organized, age-appropriate, and genuinely fun.
