About Costa Rica Service Program
Join Travel For Teens on an unforgettable 7-day Costa Rica Service program that perfectly balances meaningful community work with thrilling beach and jungle adventures. You'll spend days 2-5 based in the coastal town of Uvita, a stunning destination nestled between lush rainforests and the sparkling Pacific Ocean, where you'll contribute to real community needs through long-standing partnerships with local organizations.
Your service work will focus on impactful projects including art initiatives, English language teaching, and general upkeep of schools and community buildings—work that directly supports local residents and helps expand essential services in the region. You'll earn up to 15 hours of community service while making a tangible difference. The program strikes a perfect balance between work and play: after fulfilling service commitments, you'll experience world-class surfing lessons at beaches famous for perfect waves, embark on an unforgettable marine adventure featuring whale watching and dolphin encounters, explore natural water caves, go snorkeling, and relax in natural hot springs.
Throughout the trip, you'll explore charming coastal towns including Uvita, Dominical, and Jaco, soaking up the authentic "pura vida" lifestyle that makes Costa Rica special. The itinerary begins in San José with a welcome dinner, includes days immersed in Uvita's natural beauty and community engagement, and concludes with a final farewell celebration in the capital before your return flight. You'll stay in centrally located, safe, and well-supervised family-run hotels rather than impersonal chains—accommodations chosen specifically to facilitate group supervision and provide authentic cultural immersion.
The program is designed for high school students (grades 9-12) from around the world, with over 75% of participants traveling solo, which encourages personal growth and new friendships. All meals are included and feature authentic Costa Rican cuisine with rice, beans, tropical fruits, plantains, and Caribbean spices—plus the hearty breakfasts ticos are known for. The tuition of $2,595 (plus airfare) covers ground transportation, accommodation, experienced chaperones and guides, program activities and admissions, and all meals. Optional group flights connect Miami to San José, making logistics simple.
