About Costa Rica Ultimate Adventure & Service Program
Experience the ultimate combination of adventure and service on this 21-day program designed for high school students seeking both thrills and purpose. You'll spend three weeks exploring some of Costa Rica's most spectacular destinations—from the lush rainforests of Turrialba to pristine Pacific beaches—while making a real impact in local communities.
Your journey balances intense adventure activities with meaningful volunteer work. You'll earn up to 20 service hours by volunteering with local organizations on projects that might include art initiatives, English language instruction, environmental conservation, and school improvements. You'll work directly with local youth in underserved communities, building genuine connections with the friendly ticos (Costa Ricans) while contributing to causes that matter.
The adventure component is equally impressive. You'll spend two days whitewater rafting on the Pacuare River—rated one of the world's top rivers—camping overnight in a jungle lodge. You'll zipline through rainforest canopy, rappel down waterfalls, hike to natural pools and La Fortuna's stunning 210-foot waterfall, soak in natural hot springs fed by volcanic activity, tube down the Río Negro spotting exotic wildlife, and take surfing lessons at Tamarindo Beach, one of Central America's premier surf destinations. Expect to see monkeys, sloths, colorful birds, sea turtles, and giant iguanas in their natural habitats.
Accommodations are carefully selected family-run hotels and lodges positioned in city centers and natural settings—never impersonal chain hotels. You'll stay at a hacienda near Rincón de la Vieja volcano complete with natural mineral pools, an eco-lodge on the rainforest river, and beachfront hotels in Tamarindo. All meals (featuring authentic Costa Rican cuisine with Caribbean spices, tropical fruits, and hearty breakfasts) and ground transportation are included, along with expert chaperones and local guides. Daily parent updates with photos ensure your family stays connected throughout the experience. This program is ideal for rising 9th and 10th graders looking to challenge themselves physically, grow personally through service, and build lifelong friendships with peers from around the world.
