About European Art and Culture Program
Spend nearly three weeks in January traveling through iconic European cities while earning 3 semester credits in art history. This faculty-led study abroad program combines classroom learning with immersive museum visits, gallery tours, and guided sightseeing to bring European art and culture to life. You'll start in London, where you'll explore the British Museum and National Gallery before taking the Eurostar train to Paris. There, you'll study works at the prestigious D'Orsay Museum and the Louvre—one of the world's greatest art collections. As you progress south through Nice, Venice, Florence, and Rome, you'll visit world-renowned museums including the Guggenheim, Uffizi Gallery, and Vatican Museums, while attending classes that contextualize the masterpieces you're seeing firsthand.
This program is ideal if you're passionate about art history, cultural studies, or simply want to deepen your appreciation for European artistic heritage. The itinerary balances structured academic work with free time to explore each city independently. You'll have access to professional guides, enjoy breakfast daily, and benefit from AIFS Abroad's comprehensive support services, including 24/7 emergency support, comprehensive insurance, and pre-departure orientation. Housing is provided in shared student residences or tourist-class hotels.
The program is open to first-year, sophomore, junior, and senior undergraduates, as well as graduate students (though graduate students earn undergraduate credit). You'll need a minimum 2.5 GPA to apply. Academic credit is awarded by Fairfield University, a fully accredited private Jesuit institution with a strong commitment to international education. Whether you arrange your own travel or opt for AIFS Abroad's optional travel package—which includes round-trip flights from 25 U.S. cities and airport transfers—you'll have the flexibility to customize your journey.
The inclusive program fee of $6,790 covers tuition, housing, most meals (breakfast daily), all field trips and museum visits, cultural activities, and comprehensive support services. If you choose the optional travel package, additional costs vary by departure city, ranging from approximately $1,320 to $1,520 for round-trip flights. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis with acceptance confirmation within 2 working days of completing all requirements. Early and standard application deadlines help you secure your spot on this transformative three-week journey through European art and culture.
