About Expedition Food Workshop Program
Join MHO Adventures for a one-day Expedition Food Workshop held in Huntsville, Ontario — a hands-on, practical training experience designed to transform the way you plan and prepare meals in the backcountry. Drawing on over 30 years of wilderness guiding expertise, the MHO team has built a reputation for producing nutritious, delicious, and inclusively designed expedition menus, earning praise from participants for both the quality of the food and the thoughtfulness of dietary accommodations.
The workshop combines structured instruction with real, hands-on practice. A highlight of the day is the half-day backcountry baking session, where you'll use actual camp cooking equipment to practice techniques you can immediately apply in the field. You'll leave with recipes, practical tips, and a new level of confidence when it comes to feeding a group on any length of expedition.
Throughout the day, you'll cover how to design balanced and easy-to-execute menus, best practices for packing, portioning, and food storage, creative approaches to accommodating special diets, and efficient systems for reducing waste and streamlining meal prep. A hot lunch is included as part of the workshop day, giving you a firsthand taste of MHO's renowned camp food philosophy.
This workshop is ideally suited for camp staff, trip leaders, outdoor guides, educators, and wilderness professionals who want to elevate their food planning and preparation skills. It is also available as a custom workshop at your own location — contact MHO Adventures directly if you'd like to arrange an off-site session.
