About Fiji Service and Adventure Program
Experience Fiji, the Land of Smiles, on this 13-day summer service and adventure program designed for high school students seeking meaningful global engagement combined with unforgettable tropical exploration. You'll spend your time split between community service work on Nacula Island in the Yasawa Islands and thrilling adventures across Fiji's most beautiful destinations.
The heart of this program is your service contribution: you'll earn up to 20 hours of community service credit by helping improve facilities at a local island elementary school. This isn't superficial voluntourism—you'll build genuine bonds with Fijian students, coordinate playground activities, exchange cultural stories, and witness the direct positive impact of your work on the community. These connections often become the most meaningful part of the experience, with participants reporting tears during farewells to their new friends.
Beyond service, you'll immerse yourself in authentic Fijian culture in ways most tourists never experience. You'll prepare a traditional lovo (a feast slow-cooked in an earth oven), participate in a kava ceremony to prepare Fiji's national drink, learn traditional songs and dances, and explore limestone caves steeped in local legends. The program embraces "Fiji time"—a deliberate slowing down to live in the present moment that shifts how you experience travel and community.
Your adventure component is equally compelling: snorkel in world-class coral gardens alongside graceful manta rays on Drawaqa or Barefoot Island, swim with reef sharks, hike to panoramic sunrise views from the Yasawa Islands' peaks, zip-line through jungles and cave systems, and relax in natural hot springs at mud baths. You'll start on Viti Levu exploring the archaeological Sigatoka Sand Dunes, then move to the rustic island resorts where you'll stay on the water in simple, authentic accommodations selected for their hospitality and activity access—not Western luxury.
This program is structured for grades 9–12 and welcomes students from around the world. Travel For Teens, the organizer, is consistently awarded "Top Youth Travel Organization" and emphasizes small group sizes, knowledgeable leaders, and genuine cultural immersion over tourist experiences. All meals, ground transportation, chaperones, and program activities are included in the tuition; you'll need to arrange airfare separately. Optional group flights depart from Los Angeles. If you plan to scuba dive (an optional add-on), dive insurance is mandatory. This is the perfect balance of meaningful service, cultural learning, and adventure in an off-the-beaten-path Pacific destination.
