About Florida Keys Marine Conservation Trip Program
Join this 11-day summer adventure to Southern Florida, where you'll explore unique ecosystems and participate in hands-on marine conservation projects in the spectacular Florida Keys. Based in Miami, Key Largo, Islamorada, and Key West, you'll work with the largest coral restoration foundation in the world, helping to restore critically endangered corals to Florida's barrier reef—the third-largest reef system globally. This program combines meaningful volunteer service with adventure and cultural exploration, making it ideal for high school students (grades 9-11) passionate about marine life and environmental stewardship.
During your 11 days, you'll earn up to 25 hours of community service while diving into the region's incredible biodiversity. You'll kayak through mangrove forests spotting manatees and nurse sharks, visit a sea turtle hospital to learn about rescue and rehabilitation efforts, and take a snorkeling tour through the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary where you can identify colorful reef fish and potentially spot whale sharks and manta rays. You'll also experience the iconic Everglades on an airboat ride, where you might see both American alligators and crocodiles in their natural habitat—a phenomenon found nowhere else on Earth.
Accommodations include stays at carefully selected boutique hotels in Miami and Key Largo, chosen for their safety, comfort, and personal touch rather than impersonal chain properties. Your meals emphasize local, authentic cuisine with all breakfasts and dinners included, plus three lunches, accommodating all dietary restrictions. Travel For Teens provides experienced counselors and guides throughout, focusing on group bonding and creating a supportive community of like-minded peers from around the world.
The program balances service with adventure and cultural immersion. Beyond conservation work, you'll explore Miami's famous Southernmost Point and the Phillip & Patricia Frost Museum of Science with special behind-the-scenes aquarium access. You'll learn about coral farming techniques, marine habitat restoration, and ongoing research in sea turtle rehabilitation—knowledge that deepens as you apply it directly in the field.
This is an opportunity to make a tangible difference in marine conservation while building lifelong friendships and memories in one of America's most biodiverse regions. Whether you're aspiring to a career in marine science, environmental work, or simply passionate about protecting our oceans, this program offers authentic hands-on experience with expert organizations and passionate counselors who share your enthusiasm for the marine world. Travel For Teens has been consistently awarded as a top youth travel organization, with participants and parents praising the professional staff, authentic experiences, and transformative impact of their programs.
