About Full Time Internship in Rome Program
Spend your fall semester interning in Rome, one of Europe's most dynamic cities and the business hub of Italy. This 12-week full-time internship program combines 240 hours of in-person work experience with 12 semester credits of academic coursework, giving you real professional experience while earning credits toward your degree. You'll be placed in internships across diverse fields including business, marketing, communications, fashion, art, design, and architecture—most positions welcome English speakers, though familiarity with Italian is a plus.
During your time in Rome, you'll live in centrally-located apartments in vibrant neighborhoods like Trastevere, Campo de' Fiori, Prati, or Monti, putting you within walking distance or a short public transport ride from the city center and your internship. Your coursework includes a full-time international internship course (6 credits), Italian Culture and Traditions (3 credits), and an Italian language course at your proficiency level (3 credits), all designed to help you succeed in your workplace and navigate daily life in Italian. AIFS Abroad's placement team works with you one-on-one before departure to understand your skills, career goals, and expectations, ensuring a thoughtful match with dynamic employers.
Beyond the internship itself, you'll engage with Rome's extraordinary cultural heritage through included activities like pasta-making classes, Vatican Museums visits, pizza and gelato tastings, wine tastings, and dinners with Italian families. Optional excursions take you to Florence, the Amalfi Coast and Pompeii, and Sicily—experiences designed to deepen your understanding of Italian history, art, and culture. Your program includes guaranteed housing, 24/7 emergency support, comprehensive insurance, an on-site location coordinator, and access to AIFS Abroad's award-winning Global Career Readiness Program, which includes the CliftonStrengthsFinder assessment, one-on-one career coaching, interview prep, and networking events to help you launch your professional future.
The program runs September 11 to December 5, 2026, and welcomes first-year through graduate students currently enrolled in university or graduating within 12 months. Credits are issued through Fairfield University, allowing you to apply them toward your home institution's degree requirements if approved, and potentially access existing financial aid. Whether you're looking to jumpstart your resume, gain international work experience, improve your Italian, or explore a potential career path, this internship offers the rare combination of meaningful professional work, academic credit, language immersion, and deep cultural engagement—all in one of the world's most captivating cities.
