About Full Time Internship | Lisbon Program
Spend your fall semester interning in Lisbon, one of Europe's most vibrant and historically rich cities. This 12-week program (September 5 – November 28, 2026) combines guaranteed professional internship placement with immersive cultural experiences in a city where ancient history meets modern innovation. You'll work full-time in your chosen career field—whether that's IT, graphic design, communications, marketing, business, or social media—while living in a student apartment just outside the city center and building your professional network internationally.
What makes this program distinctive is AIFS Abroad's personalized placement process. Rather than a generic job match, the team conducts 1:1 assessments of your skills, career goals, language proficiency, and professional expectations to pair you with a dynamic employer that aligns with your ambitions. You'll interview with your future manager before placement confirmation, and once you arrive, on-site Location Coordinators provide ongoing support and coaching to help you thrive in your role. This approach has worked successfully for 20+ years, placing interns with top-tier international companies across multiple sectors.
Beyond your internship, you'll experience Lisbon's authentic culture through included day trips to the UNESCO-listed Tower of Belém and the enchanting medieval palaces of Sintra, guided city tours, visits to famous markets, and Fado music evenings. The city itself—built on eight hills where the Tagus River meets the Atlantic Ocean—offers stunning architecture, world-famous pastéis de nata, and easy access to the rest of Europe for weekend exploration. You'll also participate in AIFS Abroad's award-winning Global Career Readiness Program, which includes the CliftonStrengthsFinder assessment, one-on-one career coaching, interview preparation, and leadership training to connect your academic knowledge with professional growth.
The program is open to first-year through graduate students with no specific GPA minimum listed, making it accessible across class levels. Optional 3-credit academic coursework through Fairfield University (the school of record) is available to help you earn credit toward graduation—valuable if your home institution doesn't award credit for internships or if you need to access financial aid. The inclusive program fee of $9,490 covers housing, excursions, cultural activities, 24/7 emergency support, comprehensive insurance, and pre-departure/on-site services. Optional round-trip flights from 25 U.S. gateways are available separately (ranging from $1,440–$1,680 depending on departure city), along with carbon offsetting for environmental responsibility.
This is an ideal opportunity if you want to launch your career internationally, gain cross-cultural professional experience, improve your maturity and independence, and explore one of Europe's most welcoming capitals—all while earning real work experience and potentially college credit.
