About Full Time Internship | Madrid Program
Spend your fall semester interning in Madrid, Spain's vibrant capital and hub for business, tourism, media, and entertainment. This 12-week full-time internship program (August 31 – November 21, 2026) pairs you with guaranteed placements in top-tier international companies across fields like business, fashion, marketing, graphic design, journalism, and more. You'll work alongside professionals in a dynamic, diverse city while developing real career skills that future employers value.
The AIFS Abroad program goes far beyond the workplace. You'll live in a furnished student apartment with other interns in central Madrid, attend weekly cultural activities and social events organized by local staff, and explore Spain through included excursions to UNESCO sites like Toledo, Segovia, El Escorial, Granada, and the Basque Country. Experience traditional Spanish culture—from flamenco shows and tapas tours to visits to world-class museums like the Prado, the Royal Palace, and contemporary cultural centers. Your Location Coordinator and Program Director (Bárbara Franconi, a Spanish language and cultural immersion expert since 2005) will support you throughout your stay.
Before you arrive, you'll work 1-on-1 with AIFS's placement team to match your skills, career goals, and language proficiency with the right employer. Once in Madrid, you'll interview with your manager before the placement is confirmed. The program includes comprehensive career readiness coaching: the CliftonStrengthsFinder assessment, one-on-one career coaching, interview prep, networking events, and leadership training to connect your academic knowledge with professional ambitions.
You can earn 3 credits for the International Internship course through Fairfield University (AIFS's School of Record), with additional courses available for an additional fee. This is especially valuable if your home institution doesn't offer internship credit or requires it for graduation. You'll also receive 24/7 emergency support, comprehensive health insurance, internet access in your apartment, and a free Eurail Global Pass (valued near $500). An optional travel package with round-trip flights from 25 U.S. gateways and airport transfers is available separately.
This program is open to first-year through graduate students currently enrolled full-time at a university. Madrid's size, diversity, and professional infrastructure make it the ideal setting to prove you're hardworking, determined, and adaptable—qualities that set you apart in a competitive global job market. Whether you're pursuing accounting, communications, fashion, video production, or public relations, you'll gain real work experience, cultural fluency, and international connections that shape your career trajectory.
