About Italy Service and Adventure Program
Experience the magic of Italy through meaningful service and unforgettable adventure on this 13-day summer program designed for high school students. Your journey begins in the breathtaking Cinque Terre, one of Italy's hidden gems on the Italian Riviera, where you'll stay in the picturesque village of Monterosso just steps from the beach. This isn't a typical tourist experience—Travel for Teens has built deep relationships with the local community over years of service projects, and you'll be welcomed like family as you work alongside them to make a real difference.
During your first week in Cinque Terre, you'll earn up to 20 hours of community service credit while working on projects that matter to the community. Volunteer at a Capuchin monastery maintaining their fruit and vegetable gardens, help restore hiking trails damaged by erosion in the Cinque Terre National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), and work on improvements at local schools. Between service days, you'll hike the famous trails connecting all five villages, sampling local pizza, focaccia, and fresh pesto—a regional specialty—while taking in some of the most stunning Mediterranean views you'll ever encounter. Your service concludes with a special ceremony at the Town Hall where you'll be honored for your contributions to this remarkable region.
From Cinque Terre, your adventure continues south through Italy's most iconic destinations. You'll stop in Montalcino, a quaint Tuscan hill town, where you have the option to visit a private vineyard and participate in an exclusive hands-on cooking class at a family's Tuscan estate using vegetables straight from their garden. In Rome, the Eternal City, you'll explore the Colosseum and Roman Forum, marvel at Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel ceiling in Vatican City, and wander the charming streets of Trastevere. You'll experience the city like a local, tossing coins into the Trevi Fountain and relaxing on the Spanish Steps.
Your final days take you to southern Italy's most enchanting coastline. Based in Sorrento—a dreamy seaside town on the Bay of Naples with glamorous accommodation featuring a rooftop terrace—you'll cruise the Amalfi Coast by private boat, swimming in crystal-clear waters and exploring the pastel-painted hillside village of Positano. You'll walk the ancient streets of Pompeii, frozen in time by Mt. Vesuvius's eruption in 79 AD, and indulge in authentic Neapolitan pizza in the city where it was invented. Your adventure concludes on the exclusive island of Capri, where you can shop in chic boutiques, hike the dramatic coastline, and ride a scenic chairlift to Mt. Solaro for breathtaking views.
Throughout this program, you'll stay in carefully selected family-run hotels in safe, centrally located neighborhoods—never impersonal chain hotels. Your tuition includes all ground transportation, accommodations, meals (breakfast and dinner daily), expert guides and chaperones, and program activities. You'll eat like a local, sampling fresh pasta, authentic gelato, and Italian delicacies while learning about Italian culture firsthand. Whether you're volunteering in a monastery garden, hiking coastal trails, exploring ancient ruins, or sailing along dramatic cliffs, this program combines meaningful service with authentic cultural immersion. You'll return home not just as a tourist who visited Italy, but as someone who contributed to a community and experienced the country's beauty, history, and soul.
