About New Zealand for Older Teens Program
Discover one of the world's most stunning natural landscapes on this 13-day adventure through New Zealand's South Island, specifically designed for older teens in grades 11 and 12. This program takes you far beyond typical tourist routes to explore hidden gems including pristine alpine lakes, dramatic fjords, world-class glaciers, and otherworldly stargazing experiences that most travelers never encounter. You'll begin in Christchurch, exploring the city's creative spirit before heading south to Lake Tekapo, home to the world's largest dark sky reserve—where you'll soak in thermal hot springs while stargazing from a floating hammock and peer through telescopes at the Mount John Observatory. The adventure intensifies as you trek to Franz Josef Glacier, one of the most impressive glaciers on Earth, with optional helicopter rides to the glacier's summit and the chance to try ice climbing if you're feeling particularly brave. You'll cruise through the iconic Milford Sound spotting seals, penguins, and dolphins; explore the otherworldly glow-worm dell illuminated by thousands of bioluminescent creatures; scramble through the off-the-beaten-path Clay Cliffs of Omarama; and hike some of New Zealand's most celebrated trails. Throughout the 13 days, you'll stay in centrally located, safe, and well-supervised accommodations—small, family-run hotels rather than impersonal chains—and eat authentic local cuisine at real establishments, fully accommodating all dietary needs. The program includes ground transportation, all accommodations, experienced chaperones and guides, all breakfasts and dinners, program activities and admissions, plus taxes and tips. This is an immersive travel experience designed to transform how you see the world, build confidence as an independent traveler, and create lifelong memories while connecting with nature, local communities, and fellow adventurers from around the globe.
