About Noire River Family Adventure Program

Experience an unforgettable 5-day wilderness canoe adventure on the Noire River with your family, paddling through the remote landscapes of Western Quebec. The Noire River, a 238-kilometer waterway that flows into the Ottawa River near Davidson, offers a perfect blend of adventure and accessibility for families looking to develop their paddling skills in a remote setting.

This family-focused trip takes you through a carefully selected 63-kilometer stretch of the Noire River that features minimal portaging and abundant natural beauty. You'll paddle through Class 1 and 2 rapids—manageable whitewater that provides an excellent opportunity to develop your paddling skills while remaining accessible for family groups. Starting at the bottom of De l'Islet rapids, your journey unfolds across a meandering river dotted with huge sandy beach campsites at nearly every bend, creating picture-perfect camping locations that enhance the wilderness experience.

Your days are designed with families in mind: short paddling hours mean you'll have plenty of time for fishing, swimming, exploring, and enjoying quality time together in the wilderness. Professional guides accompany you throughout, providing expertise in both navigation and safety. All group equipment is provided, including canoes, paddles, personal flotation devices, helmets, and safety gear. You'll sleep in comfortable tents with thermarests and wake to meals prepared over campfire. The final morning features an exciting stretch of continuous Class 1 whitewater leading to the historic Black River Inn, where you'll be picked up, return to your vehicles, and celebrate your accomplishment together over lunch.

The Noire River flows through the traditional territories of the Omàmìwininìwag (Algonquin) and Anishinabeg Nation, offering you the opportunity to visit and respect this important landscape. Unlike its sister rivers, the Dumoine and Coulonge, the Noire offers a unique progression of whitewater and multiple access points along the route, providing flexibility for effective risk management while maintaining that remote, secluded feeling. This trip is ideal for families seeking an accessible wilderness adventure that builds paddling confidence, creates lasting memories, and deepens connections with both nature and each other.

Costs are $1,795 CAD (plus HST) for adults and $1,195 CAD (plus HST) for children. The package includes all meals from lunch on Day 1 through lunch on Day 5, professional guides, all equipment, permits, shuttles, and parking. Sleeping bags are available to rent if needed. Note that trip dates for 2026 are not yet scheduled; contact MHO Adventures directly at (705) 789-6479 to express your interest and learn about upcoming availability.
