About Southeast Asia for Older Teens: Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia Program
Embark on a transformative 21-day journey through four Southeast Asian countries designed exclusively for high school students ready to explore beyond the typical tourist trail. This comprehensive program takes you through Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand, combining cultural immersion, natural wonders, and authentic local experiences that will challenge your perspectives and create lifelong memories.
Your adventure begins in Hanoi, where you'll navigate the vibrant Old Quarter on cyclo rickshaws, pay respects at historical sites, and embark on a culinary food tour sampling authentic Vietnamese delicacies. From there, you'll travel by overnight train to the stunning mountain town of Sa Pa, where terraced rice fields carved into mountainsides await exploration alongside hidden waterfalls and night markets. Next comes Ha Long Bay—a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the 7 New Wonders of the Natural World—where you'll cruise through otherworldly limestone peaks and witness bioluminescent waters from your own private boat.
In Laos, the enchanting riverside town of Luang Prabang becomes your home base for experiencing Buddhist culture, spending time with elephants (ethically, without riding), visiting ornate temples, attending a traditional cooking class, and swimming in famous cascading waterfalls. You'll participate in a meaningful service day teaching local children to read, deepening your cross-cultural understanding. Cambodia's highlight is Angkor Wat—the largest religious site in the world and a 12th-century Khmer temple complex that emerged from centuries of jungle coverage, representing one of humanity's greatest architectural achievements.
Your Thai experience includes the bustling energy of Bangkok's floating markets and Khao San Road, followed by several days on the island paradise of Koh Phi Phi, where pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and world-class snorkeling or diving opportunities create moments of pure tropical bliss. You'll hike scenic trails, take longtail boats to movie-featured beaches, and watch picture-perfect sunsets that will stay with you forever.
Throughout the program, you'll stay in centrally located, safe, family-run hotels selected for their character and personal relationships with program staff—not impersonal chain properties. All meals feature authentic local cuisine carefully sourced from local establishments, with full accommodation for dietary restrictions. Expert chaperones and local guides provide seamless coordination while giving you the freedom to grow and develop genuine connections with fellow travelers. This program prioritizes ethical tourism practices, including refusing to participate in elephant rides, ensuring your adventures support local communities responsibly.
