About Study Abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina - University of Belgrano Spring Program

Imagine spending a semester in one of South America's most vibrant and sophisticated cities—Buenos Aires, Argentina. This AIFS Abroad program offers you the opportunity to study at the University of Belgrano, located in one of the capital's smartest neighborhoods, surrounded by tree-lined avenues, museums, and historic mansions. Whether you're an advanced Spanish speaker ready to take courses with local students or someone looking to strengthen your Spanish skills while exploring Latin American culture, this program has an option designed for you.

You'll choose from multiple academic pathways tailored to your language level and interests. The Immersion Program allows advanced Spanish speakers (C1 level and above) to take courses directly with Argentine students across departments like communications, economics, international relations, and sociology—a truly authentic university experience. The Latin American Studies Program is designed for intermediate to advanced speakers who want to advance their Spanish while gaining deep knowledge of Argentine and Latin American history, business, politics, and culture through courses taught in English or Spanish. If you want to deepen your academic engagement, the Certificate in Latin American Studies Program lets you complete a 10-15 page research paper under faculty mentorship, with tutorials available even after you return home.

The program goes far beyond the classroom. You'll live with a carefully selected host family or in a shared apartment in the best neighborhoods of Buenos Aires, with internet access included and daily breakfast and dinner provided in homestays. A rich calendar of cultural activities—from guided tours of iconic neighborhoods like La Boca and San Telmo to tango nights at a milonga, visits to the Recoleta Cemetery where Eva Perón is buried, and participation in human rights events with groups like 'Ni una menos'—ensures you experience Buenos Aires authentically. You can volunteer with disadvantaged children, participate in ecology or social projects, and join university clubs in sports or cultural exchange.

Excursions take you beyond the city to deepen your understanding of Argentina. Visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay (included in your program fee), experience traditional gaucho culture at a Fiesta Gaucha with horseback riding and Argentine barbecue, or spend two days at the breathtaking Iguazú Falls on the border of Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay. With 24/7 emergency support, comprehensive insurance, and an on-site AIFS Program Director, you'll have the guidance and safety net you need while maximizing your independence and growth.

This program is ideal if you're seeking genuine cultural immersion, language advancement, and academic rigor in a city that rivals Paris and Buenos Aires for sophistication and charm. You'll earn up to 22 semester credits, build lasting connections with Argentine peers, and return home with not just academic knowledge but transformed perspectives on Latin American culture, society, and your own place in the world. An optional four-week Intensive Spanish Language and Culture Preparation course is available if you want extra time to adjust to the language and culture before the semester begins.
