About Study Abroad in Lisbon, Portugal January Term Program
Spend your January Term immersed in Lisbon, one of Europe's most captivating cities, studying international business at the prestigious ISCTE International Business School. This intensive two-week program (January 3–16, 2027) offers you the opportunity to earn 3 semester credits while exploring a city famous for its sunny weather, colorful architecture, and rich cultural heritage dating back to 205 BC.
You'll study Cross Cultural Communication and Negotiation in English at ISCTE's renowned Business School, which holds both AACSB and AMBA accreditations recognized worldwide for excellence in business education. The curriculum goes beyond the classroom—your course includes company visits designed to connect theoretical learning with real-world business practices. You'll join other international students in a genuinely global learning environment, gaining insights into international business practices while building a network of peers from around the world.
Your living experience places you in a student residence near campus with fellow AIFS Abroad and international students. Housing includes single or double bedrooms, kitchen and dining facilities, study rooms, self-service laundry, and internet access. This setup fosters community while giving you the independence to explore Lisbon's vibrant neighborhoods. With 24/7 emergency support and comprehensive insurance included, you'll have peace of mind throughout your stay.
Learning extends far beyond academics. AIFS Abroad includes a rich array of cultural activities and excursions in your program fee. You'll take a guided city tour, visit the historic Belém neighborhood and São Jorge Castle, participate in a tile painting workshop, enjoy a boat tour on the Tagus River, and explore the Benfica football stadium. A day trip to Sintra—once a royal sanctuary—reveals the 19th-century Pena National Palace with its extravagant design and breathtaking hilltop views. Welcome and farewell meals connect you with your cohort, while a welcome event orients you to the community and local area.
Lisbon itself is your classroom. The city's elegant architecture, distinctive black-and-white Portuguese pavement, UNESCO World Heritage sites (including the Jerónimos Monastery and Tower of Belém), and world-renowned cuisine—including the famous Pastéis de nata—create an unforgettable backdrop for personal and academic growth. Your Program Director, Sabrina Azevedo, brings 8 years of international living experience and genuine passion for helping students make the most of their time abroad.
This program is ideal if you're a high school graduate through senior with at least a 2.5 GPA seeking intensive international exposure in a short timeframe. The all-inclusive $4,990 fee covers tuition, housing, meals, activities, excursions, and support services. Optional round-trip flights from 25 U.S. gateways start at $1,520 (from New York/Newark), and AIFS Abroad offers visa processing support for those who enroll by the visa deadline.
