About Study Abroad in Paris, France Spring Program
Spend a transformative semester immersed in Paris, one of the world's most culturally rich cities, through AIFS Abroad's French Language and Liberal Arts program. You'll study at the Institut de Langue et de Culture Françaises (ILCF), a prestigious department of the Catholic University of Paris that welcomes 2,500 international students annually. This program is designed for students at all levels—whether you're a complete beginner or already have French experience, you'll take a placement test to find your ideal level and progress at your own pace.
Your academic experience centers on mastering French language skills while exploring French culture through liberal arts courses. You'll enroll in 15-17 credits total, choosing from options like intensive French language courses (14 credits with 15 class hours per week) combined with electives, or a more balanced mix of French language courses at various levels (oral, written, phonetic) paired with subject electives. Courses covering art history, cultural studies, fashion, fine arts, and history are taught in both French and English, allowing you to engage with content even as you build language proficiency. No previous French experience is required, making this accessible whether you're starting from scratch or refining existing skills.
Living in Paris gives you unparalleled cultural immersion. You'll stay in a Parisian homestay—the ideal way to learn French authentically and integrate into local life—with breakfast daily plus one meal weekly included, plus access to the kitchen for evening meal preparation. The program fee covers tuition, housing, meals, 24/7 emergency support and comprehensive insurance, cultural activities, and organized excursions. You'll explore iconic sites like the Palace of Versailles, Monet's gardens in Giverny, and the Château of Vaux-le-Vicomte, while also discovering lesser-known gems through your director's expert local knowledge. Weekly cultural activities and social events are included, featuring museum visits (Picasso, Rodin, Marmottan-Monet), walking tours of charming neighborhoods like Montmartre, classical concerts, and ballet performances.
Beyond academics and tourism, you'll integrate deeply into Parisian life. Your on-site Program Director—Jane Downs, a French and British national who has lived in Paris for nearly three decades—provides academic guidance, introduces you to the community, and supports you throughout your stay. You'll navigate Paris's world-class Metro system, experience haute cuisine at thousands of restaurants and historic cafés, and understand the city's unparalleled fashion and architectural heritage firsthand. The program also offers volunteer opportunities with organizations like Les Restos du Coeur and Emmaüs, letting you contribute to Parisian communities while gaining meaningful experience.
The spring 2027 session runs from January 28 to May 22, 2027, giving you nearly four months to develop fluency and fall in love with the City of Light. AIFS Abroad's inclusive program fee of $18,990 covers most major expenses; you can add optional round-trip flights (ranging from $1,680–$1,960 depending on your departure city) and supplementary housing options if desired. Rolling admissions means you'll receive acceptance within two working days of completing your application, and with a 2.5 minimum GPA requirement, this program is accessible to first-year through senior undergraduates and non-students alike. Whether you're pursuing French studies, art history, cultural interests, or simply seeking transformative study abroad experience, this program positions you in one of the world's greatest cities with comprehensive support, rigorous academics, and unforgettable cultural engagement.
