About Study Abroad in Salzburg, Austria January Term Program
Immerse yourself in the musical heritage of Salzburg, Austria this January Term, studying in one of Europe's most important musical centers and the birthplace of Mozart. This three-week program (January 4–23, 2027) allows you to earn 3 semester credits while exploring your own musical inspiration in a city renowned for its classical and contemporary music scene, world-famous Salzburg Festival, and beautifully preserved Baroque architecture.
You'll take a music course taught in English through the AIFS Global Education Center, with academic credit awarded by Fairfield University. Classes feature small class sizes and supportive faculty who provide personalized instruction that extends beyond the classroom. Academic visits and excursions immerse you in Austria's rich cultural landscape, while the site's Academic Director provides ongoing support to help you adjust and succeed academically.
Live with other AIFS Abroad students in a shared student residence alongside Austrian and international peers. Your housing includes access to communal facilities, kitchen supplies, bed linens, and included internet access. The on-site AIFS Abroad team—including a native Austrian director—helps you navigate cultural questions, arrange private music lessons with local tutors (at your own cost), and guides you through life in this winter wonderland.
Beyond academics, you'll experience Austrian culture through walking tours, museum visits, pastry shop visits, sausage stands, and opera or concert events. The program includes a 3-day guided excursion to Vienna's historic city center with visits to museums and imperial palaces, round-trip transportation, daily breakfast, and accommodation—all included in your program fee. In your free time, embrace the season with snowshoeing, skiing, ice skating, or simply relaxing in cozy cafés while taking in Salzburg's snow-covered charm.
This program is open to first-year through senior undergraduates with a minimum 2.5 GPA. You'll benefit from 24/7 emergency support, comprehensive insurance, pre-departure preparation, on-site mentoring, and post-return services.
