About Study Abroad in Salzburg, Austria January Term - Music in the Age of Mozart Program
Study music this January Term in Salzburg, Austria, one of Europe's most renowned and inspiring cities and the birthplace of Mozart. This three-week program immerses you in Salzburg's rich musical heritage while you earn three semester credits toward your degree. You'll take an English-taught music course with small class sizes and supportive faculty who provide personalized instruction that brings your studies to life. Whether you're learning a new instrument or deepening your appreciation of one you already play, AIFS Abroad can help arrange private tutor lessons (at your own expense) to support your musical goals.
Beyond the classroom, your learning extends into the heart of Austrian culture. You'll participate in academic visits to museums and imperial palaces, attend opera or concert performances, and explore Salzburg's UNESCO World Heritage old town with its stunning baroque architecture. A three-day excursion to Vienna is included in your program fee, featuring guided sightseeing of the historic city center and free time to explore on your own. Walking tours, visits to local pastry shops and sausage stands, and cultural activities organized by the on-site AIFS Abroad team will give you an authentic taste of Austrian life.
You'll live in a student residence with other AIFS Abroad students and Austrian and international peers, creating a vibrant community experience. Your housing includes double and triple rooms with shared bathrooms, access to communal kitchens and study spaces, and internet access. The Salzburg Director and Academic Director are available throughout your stay to help you adjust to life abroad, answer cultural and housing questions, and provide academic support.
During your free time, embrace the winter season with snowshoeing, skiing, ice skating, or simply relax in a cozy café surrounded by Salzburg's snow-covered baroque charm. You'll receive 24/7 emergency support, comprehensive insurance, and extensive pre-departure and orientation services to help you make the most of your time abroad. This program is open to first-year through senior undergraduates with a minimum 2.5 GPA, and academic credit is awarded by Fairfield University, a fully accredited institution well known for its commitment to international education.
