Seville itself serves as your extended classroom. Art history courses take you to the city's iconic monuments and neighborhoods; a flamenco history course dives into one of Spain's most celebrated art forms; and culinary courses like Tapas: A Window to Spanish Cuisine and Culture place you literally in the kitchen, cooking and tasting dishes rooted in centuries of tradition. Field trips, site visits, and excursions to historical landmarks throughout the city and the wider Andalusian region are woven into the curriculum, grounding your academic work in lived experience.
Spanish language instruction spans all proficiency levels — from an Intensive Spanish for Beginners course designed for those with very basic knowledge, all the way to Advanced Spanish II for students with four or more semesters of university-level Spanish. Language levels are assessed through an online placement test completed before the program begins and are documented on your transcript using the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), which is recognized by academic institutions worldwide. Students wishing to enroll in courses taught in Spanish must demonstrate at least a high intermediate level.
Academic credit is transferred smoothly back to your home institution. Courses are transcripted by Fairfield University or the host institution, and each course carries 6 ECTS equivalent to a recommended 3 U.S. credits. A Course Approval Form completed during the application process ensures that your coursework aligns with your degree requirements before you depart. Pass/Fail grading is not available — all participants receive a letter grade, underscoring the academic rigor of the program.
