About Study and Intern Abroad in London, England | Fall Program
Experience a transformative semester in London, one of the world's most vibrant and culturally rich cities. This AIFS Abroad program places you at the heart of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, within walking distance of iconic landmarks like Hyde Park, the Natural History Museum, and the Victoria and Albert Museum. You'll study at the AIFS Abroad Global Education Center, a modern facility offering courses across multiple disciplines—from Arts and Business to Fashion, Humanities, and Social Sciences—with many classes specifically designed to deepen your understanding of British history, culture, economics, and politics.
You have flexibility in how you structure your semester through three distinct program tracks. The Multi Discipline program lets you take up to 15 semester credits across a broad range of courses (minimum 4, maximum 5 courses) tailored to your academic interests. The Study + Internship option combines 2-3 courses with a 3-6 credit part-time internship in your field, giving you practical workplace experience in London's thriving finance, fashion, and media sectors while taking the required British Life and Culture seminar. The London Honors Experience is designed for engaged scholars, featuring a 1-credit Honors Inquiry Seminar where you'll explore local research methodologies through guest lectures and museum/library/archive visits, culminating in a research proposal presented to professional researchers. All programs include the required HIST/SOC 335: British Life and Culture course (3 credits), taught in English across 45 contact hours per semester.
Your comprehensive program fee covers far more than tuition. You'll live in student residences with shared kitchen and common areas (single rooms available for an additional fee), enjoy a London Transport travel pass giving you unlimited access to the world's oldest underground railway network, and receive 24/7 emergency support with comprehensive health insurance. AIFS Abroad organizes extensive cultural programming including guided museum visits, West End theater performances, walking tours of neighborhoods like Brick Lane, market visits, sporting events, and afternoon tea experiences. You'll take day trips to Stonehenge and Salisbury, Cambridge, and the picturesque Cotswolds villages, with an optional 3-day Scottish highlands tour available. The program also includes access to the Clifton StrengthsFinder assessment for personal development, alumni network connections, and one-on-one academic and personal support from the Program Director and student advisors.
The program actively fosters cultural integration and personal growth. You can arrange volunteer placements with London charities and NGOs to deepen your understanding of British society while making a meaningful community impact. Themed weeks throughout the semester focus on topics like wellness, sustainability, and social responsibility. The site director, Heather Lees, has lived in the UK for nearly 14 years and brings deep expertise in helping American students thrive abroad. She emphasizes hands-on learning and organizes excursions to England's natural wonders, from Lake District ghyll scrambling to Brecon Beacons kayaking.
Academic credit is awarded through Fairfield University, a fully accredited private Jesuit institution renowned for international education.
