About Study + Internship in Granada, Spain - University of Granada Spring Program
Spend a semester in the vibrant and historic city of Granada, Spain, with AIFS Abroad, studying at the University of Granada's renowned Centro de Lenguas Modernas (CLM). Nestled at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains and just a short trip from the Mediterranean coast, Granada offers an unparalleled backdrop for immersive language learning and cultural discovery. The CLM features modern classrooms, audio-visual equipment, computer facilities, and a library — all staffed by native Spanish professors who teach in small groups, ensuring personalized attention and genuine language development.
The program is designed to accommodate a wide range of Spanish proficiency levels. Whether you're a beginner looking to build foundational skills through the Spanish Language and Culture (English) track, an intermediate learner ready to study in Spanish, or an advanced student pursuing the rigorous Advanced Hispanic Studies program, there is an academic pathway tailored to you. You can earn up to 20 semester credits, and an optional Early Start option — a 3-week (spring) or 4-week (fall) intensive language preparation course — lets you arrive early, boost your Spanish, and ease into academic and daily life in Spain before the semester officially begins.
One of the program's most distinctive offerings is the Study + Internship track, which places Upper Intermediate and Advanced Spanish speakers in real Granada workplaces: local businesses, private hospitals, cultural entities, NGOs, or schools. You'll complete either a 45-hour (3-credit) or 120-hour (7-credit) internship alongside coursework, gaining career-relevant experience in a global setting. The internship is coordinated by the University of Granada and supported through group seminars, one-on-one meetings with the internship coordinator, and a final diary and oral presentation — all of which appear on your transcript.
Your inclusive program fee covers tuition, housing (homestay or shared apartment), meals, guided cultural activities, day trips, and a 2-day excursion to Seville and Córdoba. The cultural calendar is rich: you'll tour the Alhambra and Generalife Gardens (UNESCO World Heritage Sites), explore the historic Albaicín quarter, attend a flamenco show, take a paella cooking class, hike in the Sierra Nevada, and participate in language exchanges with local Spanish students. Optional excursions to Madrid and Morocco are available for an additional fee. An on-site Program Director, 24/7 emergency support, comprehensive insurance, and carbon-offsetting for flights round out the full-service support structure.
Housing options include a homestay with a Spanish family (the most immersive choice, with 3 meals daily), a shared apartment with other AIFS Abroad participants, or an optional student residence shared with Spanish and international students. All housing includes internet access. The program is open to high school graduates through seniors (and non-students), requires a minimum 2.5 GPA, and welcomes students from virtually any major — with academic interests ranging from Spanish language and literature to business, health sciences, political science, and the arts.
