About Study + Internship in Madrid, Spain - Universidad Nebrija Spring Program
Immerse yourself in the vibrant capital of Spain with AIFS Abroad's semester program at Universidad Nebrija, a prestigious institution with 6,000 students located in the heart of Madrid. You'll study at the Madrid-Princesa campus in the city center, where you'll integrate daily with both international and Spanish students, creating an authentic academic and cultural experience. This comprehensive program is designed to give you a true sense of Spanish life while earning up to 21 semester credits.
You have flexibility in choosing your academic path. The Hispanic Studies program focuses entirely on Spanish language and culture through courses taught in Spanish (language, grammar, literature, art, history, political science, and Spanish society), available at all levels from beginner to advanced—no prior Spanish knowledge required. Alternatively, the International Studies program lets you take degree courses in English alongside Spanish language studies, with options in business, engineering, art, architecture, culture, history, international relations, and literature. If you have advanced Spanish proficiency and completed at least five semesters of college-level Spanish, you can even take regular degree courses alongside Spanish students through the Integrated Studies option. The optional Early Start Program runs for four weeks in spring, offering intensive Spanish language instruction focused on grammar, conversation, and culture, giving you a head start and smoother transition to academic life abroad.
Your housing experience is central to cultural immersion. Choose between a homestay—where you'll live with a Spanish family and enjoy daily breakfast and dinner while practicing language skills naturally—or a modern apartment shared with other AIFS students in a centrally located Madrid neighborhood. Both options include internet access and provide daily laundry service or laundry facilities. Beyond the classroom, you'll participate in a rich cultural calendar organized by AIFS staff, including guided city tours, visits to world-renowned museums like the Prado and Reina Sofía, Royal Palace exploration, cooking classes, tapas evenings, and tours of Madrid's diverse neighborhoods including the historic Barrio de las Letras, vibrant LGBTQIA+ community of Chueca, and multicultural Lavapiés. You'll also have access to volunteering opportunities through local NGOs and conversation exchange programs (intercambios) to practice Spanish with native speakers.
The program includes three included excursions beyond Madrid: a three-day trip to Granada in Andalucía featuring the stunning Alhambra, Generalife Gardens, and a traditional flamenco show; day trips to historic Toledo, Segovia (with its famous Alcázar Castle), and El Escorial. Optional excursions to the Basque Country (four days exploring Bilbao, San Sebastian, and the dramatic coastline) and Salamanca (two days) are also available for additional fees. Throughout your time abroad, you'll have 24/7 emergency support, comprehensive health insurance, and guidance from the on-site AIFS Program Director, Bárbara Franconi, who brings years of experience supporting international students.
The program runs from January 7 to May 21, 2027, with an application deadline of October 1, 2026. The inclusive fee of $19,990 covers tuition, housing, meals (in homestay), excursions, cultural activities, and support services. You're eligible if you have a minimum 2.5 GPA and are a high school graduate, first-year, sophomore, junior, or senior. Optional round-trip flights from 25 U.S. gateways are available starting at $1,760 (from New York/Newark) to $2,080 (from San Francisco), with airport transfers included. This is your chance to transform your Spanish skills, build global connections, and discover why Madrid is a city of endless cultural discovery.
