About Study + Internship in Prague Program

Spend a transformative semester in Prague, Czech Republic, where you'll balance classroom learning with hands-on professional experience in a vibrant Central European capital. This Study + Internship program, offered through AIFS Abroad in partnership with Charles University and Fairfield University, is designed for sophomores, juniors, and seniors who want to gain practical insight into working life abroad while earning up to 18 U.S. credits.

Your experience begins with an intensive two-week orientation covering Czech language and culture—no prior language experience required. You'll attend 5 hours of daily instruction, participate in cultural activities, and take two all-day field trips to acclimate to Prague and the Czech Republic. This 3-credit orientation component is followed by up to four courses from Charles University's East and Central European Studies Program (ECES), each worth 3 credits and taught entirely in English. Courses cover diverse fields including art history, literature, political science, economics, history, and music, giving you flexibility to tailor your academic experience to your interests.

The internship component, worth 3 credits and accredited by Fairfield University, is where you'll gain invaluable professional experience. You'll work side by side with locals in Prague-based organizations across sectors ranging from production, marketing, and IT to administrative roles and English teaching in local elementary schools. This practical exposure helps you test potential career paths, develop professional and personal skills, and understand how different cultures approach work and business in an increasingly interdependent world.

Prague itself is your classroom beyond coursework. Nicknamed "the City of a Hundred Spires," this historic capital dating back to the ninth century offers stunning architecture—from Gothic churches to baroque buildings to the world's largest castle complex. You'll live in a student residence hall with other AIFS Abroad and international students, receive a European-style cold breakfast Monday through Friday, and enjoy included Wi-Fi and access to on-site facilities like a full kitchen, gym, and laundry. You'll also receive a Czech SIM card and public transport pass, making navigation seamless.

Your program fee of $16,990 is inclusive of tuition, housing, meals, a 24/7 emergency support system, comprehensive insurance, and a rich calendar of cultural activities and excursions. Included day trips and excursions take you to places like Plzeň, Kutná Hora, and the Moravian wine country. Optional excursions—such as a 3-day journey to Kraków and Auschwitz-Birkenau (estimated $375) or a 2-day Czech spa town experience in Karlovy Vary ($275)—deepen your understanding of Central Europe's history and culture. The AIFS Abroad office, located in the heart of Prague's oldest quarter within walking distance of Charles University, provides a student center, library, computer lab, and expert staff ready to support you throughout your semester.
