About Study + Internship in Prague, Czech Republic Spring Program
Spend a semester in Prague, the picturesque capital of the Czech Republic, combining rigorous academics with valuable international work experience. You'll study at Charles University, the largest and most prestigious university in Central Europe, founded in 1348 and home to over 45,000 students. The program begins with an intensive two-week orientation in Czech language and culture—52 contact hours of language instruction plus cultural activities and field trips to help you settle into living abroad. This orientation carries 3 credits and is designed to ease your transition into Czech life.
The Study + Internship option allows you to earn up to 18 semester credits total: 15 credits from up to 4 courses taught in English through the East and Central European Studies Program at Charles University, plus 3 credits for the internship itself, which is accredited by Fairfield University (a private Jesuit institution). Your internship placement will be with a Prague-based organization in fields such as production, marketing, IT, administration, or English teaching in local schools. This combination of classroom learning and hands-on professional experience helps you understand different work cultures, develop practical skills, and test potential career paths in a global context.
You'll live in a student residence hall with other AIFS Abroad and international students, conveniently located near stores, restaurants, and public transport. Housing includes shared double rooms (single rooms available upon request), shared bathrooms and kitchenettes, a full-sized kitchen on each floor, laundry facilities, a gym, and 24-hour security. Breakfast is included Monday through Friday, and Wi-Fi access is provided. The AIFS Abroad office sits in the heart of Prague's oldest quarter, within walking distance of Charles University, offering a student center, library, computer lab, and free printing.
Beyond the classroom and internship, you'll immerse yourself in Prague's rich culture through a calendar of weekly activities and social events included in your program fee. These range from Prague city walks and visits to the Jewish Museum to opera performances, sports events, Czech cooking classes, and hiking trips. Optional excursions take you beyond Prague to historic sites like Kraków and Auschwitz-Birkenau (3 days, $375), the Czech spa town of Karlovy Vary (2 days, $275), and the wine country and castles of Moravia (2 days, included). You'll also receive a Czech SIM card and public transport pass, making it easy to explore independently.
The program is open to sophomores, juniors, seniors, and non-students with a minimum 3.0 GPA; no prior Czech language experience is required. You'll benefit from 24/7 emergency support, comprehensive insurance, airport transfers via the optional travel package, and access to the Clifton StrengthsFinder assessment and AIFS Abroad's alumni network. The inclusive program fee of $16,990 covers tuition, housing, meals, excursions, cultural activities, and support services. Optional round-trip flights from 25 U.S. gateways range from $1,820 to $2,240 depending on your departure city.
