About Study + Internship in Sydney, Australia Program
Spend your spring semester at the University of Sydney, Australia's oldest and most prestigious university, combining rigorous academic coursework with a meaningful 120-hour internship experience. This program runs from January 8 to May 31, 2027, offering you the chance to study across a wide range of disciplines—including Humanities, Social Sciences, STEM, Business, Engineering, Environmental Studies, and more—while gaining real-world professional experience in Sydney's vibrant economy.
You'll take 3-4 courses at the university alongside your supervised internship placement, typically within small to medium businesses, NGOs, or university research projects. The internship component includes five professional development workshops covering workplace culture, intercultural communication, relationship building, motivation, management styles, and self-reflection—tools you'll immediately apply to enhance your learning and performance in your placement. This integration of classroom learning and hands-on experience ensures you return home with both academic credits and genuine professional development.
Sydney itself is your extended classroom. As Australia's most populous city with 4.6 million residents and consistent recognition as a world-class city for quality of life, it offers world-class museums, art galleries, vibrant festivals, theater, sports events, and some of the world's best beaches. Your program includes excursions to iconic destinations like the Blue Mountains (a UNESCO World Heritage site), Port Stephens with dolphin cruises, and the Royal National Park—opportunities to explore Australia's natural beauty beyond the city.
You'll live in comfortable student housing just 10-15 minutes' walk from campus, in twin-shared rooms with study desks, kitchens, air conditioning, gyms, and movie rooms. The University of Sydney provides extensive cultural and social programming, peer mentoring through the Mates Abroad program, and recreational and competitive sports facilities. AIFS Abroad staff, including Sydney Director Andrea Hay, offer on-site support, 24/7 emergency assistance, and comprehensive health insurance. Pre-departure and post-return services help you maximize your time abroad and integrate your experience upon return home.
This program is ideal for sophomores, juniors, and seniors with a minimum 3.0 GPA who want to combine meaningful study at one of the world's leading universities with practical professional experience in an international setting. The all-inclusive program fee of $24,490 covers tuition (up to 16 U.S. semester credits), housing, excursions, cultural activities, insurance, and support services—with the option to add round-trip flights from 25 U.S. gateways starting at $3,100.
