About Tanzania Service & Safari Program
Tanzania Service & Safari is a 17-day high school travel program offered by Travel for Teens (TFT) that takes you deep into the heart of one of Africa's most captivating countries. You'll experience an extraordinary blend of meaningful community service, immersive cultural exchange, world-class wildlife safaris, and island adventure — all in a single unforgettable journey across Tanzania.
Your adventure begins in Dar es Salaam before traveling to Morogoro, where you'll live on campus at SEGA (Secondary Education for Girls' Advancement), a school dedicated to empowering vulnerable Tanzanian girls. Over four days, you'll partner with local students on service projects alongside organizations including Sustainable Agriculture Tanzania, APOPO (which trains rats to detect landmines and tuberculosis), and the Amami Centre, a safe haven for children and families living with disabilities. You'll earn up to 20 hours of community service credit and participate in the Modern Girl community outreach program, engaging directly with youth aged 10–18 in the surrounding community.
From Morogoro, your safari adventure begins in earnest. You'll explore Tarangire National Park, descend into the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and 'Africa's Garden of Eden' — and encounter the Hadzabe Bushmen tribe and Maasai communities in the Monduli Mountains. You'll also hike to a waterfall in the foothills of Kilimanjaro and visit blacksmiths and carvers preserving traditional Chagga crafts. Days are spent game-viewing among elephants, lions, Black Rhino, zebras, and wildebeests, while nights are spent under vast, star-filled African skies.
The program concludes in Zanzibar, where you'll explore the UNESCO-listed Stone Town with its mosques, palaces, and spice markets, sail on a traditional dhow during a Safari Blue Cruise, snorkel coral reefs, visit the giant tortoise sanctuary on Prison Island, learn to cook traditional Swahili food on a spice farm, and dine at rooftop restaurants overlooking the Indian Ocean sunset.
All accommodations, ground transportation, chaperones, guides, and three meals daily are included in the program fee. You'll stay in safe, locally selected hotels — including a beachside property in Dar es Salaam and a game lodge near Arusha. This program is open to students in grades 9–12 from around the world and is ideal for those seeking a transformative mix of service, cultural connection, and wild adventure.
