About Virtual Internship Semester Program
The AIFS Abroad Virtual Internship Semester offers you a flexible, remote work experience with international organizations, allowing you to develop professional skills while working from anywhere. This program is designed for students seeking real-world experience in a modern work environment where hybrid and work-from-anywhere cultures are increasingly common. You'll gain independence, motivation, and time management skills while honing cross-cultural communication abilities and critical thinking—competencies that employers value across industries.
Choose between 8 or 12-week internship placements during fall, spring, or summer terms, with options for full-time or part-time work. AIFS Abroad guarantees an internship placement in one of your approved career fields across 20+ areas including business, digital marketing, communications, computer science, environmental studies, fashion, finance, graphic design, journalism, and nonprofit work. The program accepts high school graduates through working professionals, making it accessible to students at any academic stage.
Your experience includes comprehensive support from day one. You'll participate in a virtual welcome orientation, attend cultural events, and engage in regular check-ins with your program advisor. AIFS Abroad's award-winning Global Career Readiness Program is central to your development—you'll complete the CliftonStrengthsFinder assessment, participate in career coaching workshops, and receive personalized resume and cover letter support. This strengths-based approach ensures you're prepared not just for your current internship, but for leveraging this experience into your future career.
The program runs for 12 weeks (September 1–November 21, 2026 for Fall) and costs just $1,690 for the inclusive fee, which covers internship placement, orientations, check-ins, professional development, and access to the AIFS alumni network. You'll work directly with the enrollment team during a personalized placement process where they assess your skills, career goals, and language proficiency to match you with the right employer. Before your placement is finalized, you'll interview with your manager via phone or Zoom.
Optional academic credit is available through Fairfield University, allowing you to earn credit toward graduation if your home institution requires it or if you want to access financial aid options. Whether you're building your resume, exploring a career field, or gaining professional experience between semesters, this virtual program offers meaningful work experience with the flexibility and support of a structured study abroad organization. Apply by July 1, 2026 for the Fall semester, with scholarships available for those who apply by April 15.
