About WFR Recert – 3 Days Program

This 3-day Wilderness First Responder (WFR) recertification course is designed for outdoor professionals and enthusiasts who hold a current WFR certification and need to renew their credentials. Offered by MHO Adventures in partnership with Wilderness Medical Associates International, the course combines online preparation with intensive in-person instruction to refresh your essential wilderness medical skills, protocols, and the latest updates in wilderness medicine.

The program is open to graduates of all wilderness medical training courses of 70 hours or longer who maintain current WFR certification. Upon successful completion, you'll receive internationally recognized certifications in Wilderness First Responder, Anaphylaxis, and BLS/Healthcare Provider-level CPR. WEMT graduates holding current EMT-B or Paramedic certificates can also use this course to recertify the wilderness component of their WEMT credential.

You'll spend your first day demonstrating WFR-level competency, building on your existing foundation before diving into scenario-based learning and practical skills refinement. Before arriving, you'll review textbooks and field guides and complete an online exam to ensure you're prepared for the accelerated 3-day format. The course is run as a Licensed Training Provider, ensuring all certifications meet international standards and are recognized worldwide.

The training takes place at MHO Adventures' 20-acre forested base just 15 minutes south of Huntsville, Ontario—a beautiful setting on Mary Lake where you can swim, watch sunrises and sunsets from the beach, or explore nearby trails. Between intensive training sessions, you'll have time to decompress by the fire pit, share experiences with fellow wilderness medicine practitioners, and recharge in a peaceful natural environment.

Accommodation and meal options are flexible and affordable. You can pitch a tent ($60 for the duration), stay in a shared heated bunkie with comfortable amenities ($50/night), or book a private bunkie ($125/night)—all at discounted rates for course participants. For meals, choose the full plan with three hot home-cooked meals daily ($225) or lunch-only for commuters ($75). Alternative motel-style lodging is available nearby at Muskoka Bible Centre with a 15% discount. This program is ideal for wilderness guides, outdoor educators, first responders, and adventure professionals who need to maintain their certifications while connecting with a community of peers in an inspiring natural setting.
